I am very familiar with JW and their almost cult-like ways. I have some family that are JW's and am glad to see a special on exposing the extreme beliefs. They are basically brain-washed as children to think of anything worldly as bad. My family who are JW's do not play sports, do not attend any weddings or funerals that are not in a kingdom Hall. They do not celebrate christmas, birthdays etc. They are a walking contradiction, imo. They want to spread the word of God yet they do nothing involves socializing with anyone outside of the JW's. My family is actually going to clean up from Hurricane Michael... but only helping any JWs that need help!?? Why not help any that may need help? I know this post is long but I feel very strongly about the exclusion of this religion. I feel terrible for my little cousins who are sheltered beyond belief. I hope this sheds a light.

I don't know about all the rest of your post, but this was my JW experience after Katrina:
JW volunteers rolled into town and got after it. Yes, maybe tbey initially focused on helping other JWs, but that wasn't all tbey did. Long after the opportunists had left town, JWs were still there and helping anyone who needed assistance, and not just other JWs. They were also knocking on doors every Wednesday and Saturday morning to spread their message.

Also, the JW I came to know the best once drove from Pass Christian, MS to Houma, LA to play in a flag football game on a weeknight. That guy was crazy for sports.

Its get even worse with a lot of their beliefs...

Based off what you just said, you dont know anything about them.

You're probably the same one who calls them a cult. When they're Christians and unlike a cult who does weird crazy stuff in private, they go door to door in public explaining their beliefs and actually try to clear up misconceptions.

I've never once talked religion on here and this is probably why, bc most of the time people talk about something they have no idea about.

We had a JW family in our neighborhood. They would go around every so often to "witness" to people. But more often than not, you'd find the father standing on a milk crate at the end of his driveway speaking into a karaoke machine. He would rant on about the evils of white people and never touched on the JW stuff. We moved a short while later...

Maybe it depends on each Kingdom Hall... Just as you find extremes in a lot of religions, I believe my family members are quite extreme JW. That's not to say there aren't good people in JW-- There are! I am just speaking from personal experience and how exclusive they are. I do know of an instance of a friend's of sister, who is a JW, who was sexually assaulted by an older member of the JW... The parents were told by the elders of the church not to tell authorities as it would be "handled internally by the elders". Nothing was done. This is at the same Kingdom Hall so as I previously mentioned... I'm sure it's just a more strict/extreme one than the one you've encountered.

It's more despicable than that, the elders are basically supposed to not go anywhere without Branch Office approval. The only time secular authority is involved without? If someone who isn't an elder breaks rank.

2017 pamphlet for handling child abuse in UK and Ireland

Branch Office makes the legal secular calls. Then has the Elders do a weird little investigation. Y'know instead of cops or getting the kid to a safe place. Bad as fricking Bishop's that knew and the paper trail for moving the diddlers around.
