SIAP but I did a search and didn't see anything up to date on this one. Just saw this on Prime the other night. Was excited to see it pop up. I have been a fan of most of Kevin Smiths movies. Even when he did Clerks 2, I thought it would be dumb and unfunny, and I was really wrong.

Well, this one was garbage. It just was not funny at all. And he forced his daughter into the movie as a main character and she was just awful. There were really no redeeming qualities to this film. I am all for stupid dick and fart jokes, but they should at least be clever and funny. He probably needs to go ahead and give it up if this is what he is putting out.

I thought Zack and Miri Make a Porno was really funny. Apparently he has made a few movies since that one that I have not seen that everyone seems to agree are trash.

Reboot was awful

He was retconning plot points from other movies for the sake of social justice, and nothing in the movie warranted so much as a chuckle

Clerks 2, as you said, was actually pretty good. Beyond that, everything has been garbage.

I loved Red State.

There was an interview of his a while back in which he talks about being a huge pot smoker. He says he didn't in the past, and then once he finally started doing it he believed his writing and directing improved. I don't recall which movie this started around, but it was around the middle of his films.

In other words, this dude's movies went to shite the moment he became a fullblown pothead, yet he thinks that's when the actually got better

Now I ain't trying to turn this into a political debate, so let's not go there. This is more just to point out the awkwardness that has become Kevin Smith.

Clerks 2 was an ok film, but it signaled the beginning of his downfall as a filmmaker. He has created shite ever since then, and I have zero interest in this new one. I was a major fan of his for a while, and still am of his early work

But wasn't that part of the idea of the movie? When they meet up with Brody at the mall, they talk about how reboots tend to be the same plot with just some changes and cameos and then they look at the camera like they're saying "now you know what's going on."

And that's exactly what happens. BUT it also seems very much like Grown Ups where Kevin Smith wanted to make a movie with his friends AND get paid.

I want to think it was a film to mock reboots but he didn't care that much and just started casting his family, friends, and former co-stars because it would be more fun.

Then you're all you motherfricks are next. Love, Jay and Silent Bob.

If you take it for what it is, which is a fan service movie, it’s really not bad. I really enjoyed it but only for nostalgic reason. Agree as a stand alone movie it would have been garbage but I don’t think that’s what he was trying to make here.

The “reboot vs remake” discussion with Jason lee had me rolling.

This movie was funny, you had to know all the throwbacks to the other movies though.

If you didn’t watch all the other KS movies then you probably won’t find this one funny.

I was a huge, Jay and a Silent Bob Strike Back and Dogma, fan so this movie was great on the nostalgia factor.

So you're saying, to mock shitty reboots, he himself made a shitty reboot?
I turned it off. It was terrible. I love his old stuff.

He pretty much described it that way. I think on Rogan he mentioned he traveled city to city showing the movie and then answering questions for fans. This was the intent of making the movie as some sort of a traveling show for fans. I don't think he intended to put a movie out in the typical fashion.

That's fine, but all those fans had to sit through 100 minutes of crap to have a Q&A. Doesn't seem like an awesome strategy.

We all do, and none of it was funny.

I have oft stated that Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back is one of the funniest movies of that decade.

Reboot is just soooo bad. The film tries to hard to be a feminist ally. Basically every line uttered by a female character, including Holden, is a feminist talking point.

It was a complete chore to sit through.
