At the point when work writing & directing big franchises has become the emotionally loaded equivalent of writing a new chapter of The Bible (w/ the probable danger of being stoned & called a blasphemer), then a lot of bolder minds r gonna leave these films 2 hacks & corp boards.

AKA. "We're the real heroes - praise us with great praise!" When someone pointed out that films have already been turned over to "hacks and corp boards" he replied

quote:

If you feel that is the case, if u feel the film makers are just corporate tools and powerless, then why bitch at us? In the case of @rianjohnson and @chrismcquarrie, i assure you these cats are not “owned”. They actually fight your battles behind the scenes.

Rian fought for you! He fought for *your* Star Wars movie! Anything you didn't like was the result of some corporate suit! Up is down, down is up. Praise him with great praise!

And Mangold is right: people will leave. And people most vulnerable to this sort of treatment, women and people of color and marginalized folk of all sorts, are going to be the ones who are driven out most quickly and easily.

No offense, but isn't that what the most vicious online harassers want? Isn't this just confirming that their strategy is working?

How about they just use common sense and don’t make a shite movie?

Well, "the suits" wrecked MY childhood. I can't wait until they shite all over the avengers in 15 years.

The original series was not a comedy. I don't know why they felt the need to insert goofy arse lines every 5 minutes in the new ones. I guess maybe audiences are felt to be dumber with shorter attention spans now.

Terrible argument by Mangold, Rian is part of those Corp hacks. They are so concerned about their agenda instead of being concerned about making a good movie.

JJ Abrams is the corporate hack, not Rian Johnson. TFA is a lazy remake and takes zero risks. Its just a shinier version of things you've already seen before. Rian Johnson shite all over the franchise and its fans. That's the exact opposite of what a corporate hack would do.

He unfortunately wasn’t the corporate hack. JJ Abrams had a vision of Star Wars that wasn’t awful. I feel confident that if he was the Kevin Fiege of Star Wars, he would have fired Johnson on the spot as soon as he read Luke tossing the lightsaber over his shoulder.

Abrams shouldn’t have directed TFA; he should have produced it and every other Star Wars movie. I don’t think we would have gotten TLJ or Solo under him. He would have said “We just killed Han off and no one wants that story. Give me something original.”

I don’t think that Abrams is that good of a director, but he’s a fantastic producer. Just look at Mission Impossible or the hands he left most of his TV shows in. JJ is a good ideas guy and can recognize shite and talent when he sees it, and I wish he would just stay a producer and put directing to the sidelines.

I missed the memo that determined TFA was crap. I liked it and so did most people but lately I’ve noticed this board suddenly hates it.

You're talking about "the melt" as if it's the haters who are going to different media outlets every other week to talk about how bad the movie was. The only reason people are still complaining about TLJ is because the people who made the damned thing are still trying to defend it. Every fricking week there's a new article from some damned body trying to convince us that it was a good movie and no one's buying.

This whole TLJ defense bs is a cross-section of what's wrong with the world today. No men or women of integrity to say, "yeah, my bad my movie sucked. Sorry I let you down."
Instead we get this righteous indignation routine because we, the sheeple, expressed a contrary opinion. Cuz we didn't baaaah down to the altar of SW and sing the praises of a totally shitty product packaged in a solid brand.
Then, we are called racist for calling a sp...well, trash "garbage". Talk about doubling-down on arrogant stupidity.

frick this pussified world.

Because that's the formula Disney used for Marvel. Disney corporates hands are ALL over this one and the PR department made sure they checked off every box.

Walt Disney is rolling over in his grave.

The arrogance of thinking art can be quantified and formulated betrays an ignorance almost beyond comprehension.

Wasn't Mangold a major part of what made Logan the best wolverine movie?

He shouldn't be defending RJ, he should pick up the phone and explain to him that fans expect movies to reasonably adapt from the source materials and characters.

There was no fan fiction in which Luke became a weak and cowardly character. And if there were there would have to be a very good story to show the gradual degradation of his character. Because if you must make a noble and well loved character the opposite you at the very least owe the fans the exposition to allow them to accept such a drastic change.

Did....did he miss the tweets and comments from Rian that actively degenerated those that had problems with “his” film?

He wasn’t a victim of the suits.

He was a collaborator.

I like it, but it doesn't really stand up anymore considering most of its open ends and what had set up was then thrown away in TLJ either verbally or physically.

I liked TFA alright, but it also wasn't this religious experience some tried to make it out to be when it first came out. It was a soft reboot meant to introduce new characters and get the fans back after the prequels. Sadly, TLJ ended up causing both of those to be moot.
