It's the MCU for me. Star Wars still has the OT to fall back on.

Marvel has made more than 3 awesome films.

That’s stretching it a bit. It’s also unfair to compare the two as the marvel movies are mostly unrelated to each other. It’s not like there has been 3 great X-men movies or 3 great Avengers movies. Instead there has been 1 good one from each series and the rest were merely decent to blah.

Honestly, the inverse is ALSO true. An "okay" movie will be classified by fans as "terrible", "horrible", "SJW trash".

^^^^^^this guy gets it.

Like I posted in a previous thread. I still consider the EU to be cannon. I DGAF what Disney says. I liked a lot of the things in the EU. So I keep them.

I look at the prequels and subsequent movies as “one persons interpretation” of the events. They got some aspects of the story correct while being WAY off in others.

Infinity War was as good as ESB.
The Avengers as good as SW:ANH

Winter Solider, GotG, IM, BP, Ragnarok, Civil War & Homecoming all better than Jedi.

I'll take the Avengers movies over X-Men movies a million times over. I'd argue that the worst Avengers film light years ahead 2/3 of the X Men films.

Its sad but they managed to entirely frick up the prequels and now the sequels are a fricking joke.

I finally watched TLJ free on a cross country flight, I had to turn that shite off and watched I, Tonya.

fricking Tonya Harding is a better watch than Star Wars, fml and frick those responsible for ruining SWs.

That's just your opinion, which you're entitled to. For me, the first 2 Avengers are garbage.

I enjoyed IW, but I wouldn't put it up there with ESB. I doubt I'll still be watching IW 40 years from now.

I think the Avengers movies are very good; the cream of the superhero crop (I won't go with TDK because he doesn't have powers that require CGI). It's a fine franchise, and it's currently still in it's prime.

I prefer Star Wars for nostalgic reasons, but I also prefer the "original" Original Trilogy. Not a big fan of Lucas' meddling after the fact.

I'v never understood the Star Wars phenomenon. Sure, the special effects were better than what had been seen before and the overall story/theme was good, but they were attached to a movie with mostly bad acting and excruciating dialogue.

It was all about the special effects and the tone. There was nothing really new there, it was just that we hadn't seen sci-fi done that beautifully with a balance between the sterile future and gritty realism.

I went back and rewatched ANH recently and the acting outside of Guinness and Cushing is terrible. Hamill was whiney, Fisher would go in and out of a British accent, and even Vader wasn't really scary or intimidating.

And I know this is sacrilege to say for such an iconic character, but Harrison Ford's acting is godawful in Episode 4.

I enjoy Star Wars movies for what they are, but I agree with this.

Before this recent revival, there were 3 shite movies, 1 ok meh movie, 1 good movie, and 1 great movie. Never would I have imagined that there would be people losing their minds over a series that has a track record of failing more times than not (not in terms of money, obviously, because they print it, but in terms of quality).

If I were to look at all of the movies as standalones, then TFA and Rogue One would be fighting for 3rd best movie. But since people are so fixated on the concept that TFA recycled the plot from ANH, then most probably won't agree with that ranking. Solo is about on par with ROTJ for me with TLJ fighting with AOTC for the bottom spot.

No. No it wasn’t. Infinity Wars is a decent movie at best. It will never be watched and rewatched millions of times over like ESB is.

None of the Avenger movies compared to X-men DOFP or First Class.

It's just hard for me to consider something overrated when there have been 10 full-length feature films (excluding Clone Wars), with an average rating on RottenTomatoes of about 81% and box office averages (including re-releases of:

$937.1 million worldwide box office per film
$451 million domestic box officeper film
$731 million inflation-adjusted domestic box office per film

To put that into perspective, excluding the Star Wars films themselves, their 10 film average would rank:

41st in worldwide box office
12th in domestic box office
10th in inflation-adjusted domestic box office

For a collection of 10 films spanning over 40 years (and still going) to have had such an impact commercially, let alone still having critical success as well, across 4 decades, is an amazing feat.

Flaws and all (and their have been plenty), its success and impact is undeniable. Hard to call that overrated, regardless of how exteme some take it (which is a sign of their significance as well).

I think that calls squarely on George Lucas, and it got worse with his overuse of green screens and cutting a bunch of different takes into single scenes.

Star Wars had an impressive collection of actors in the Lucas directed films, and somehow two of the only actors to somehow overcome were the ones who played Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Calling something overrated doesn’t mean you’re calling it bad. It just means you think it’s overvalued or not worthy for as much praise as it gets. Something could be good and successful and still be considered overrated.

I completely get that, but I guess it's an issue what metric we're considering in terms of rating it.

If we're talking purely film quality, then ranking even Empire, let alone the far more inferior films, near the top would make it overrated. But I don't know many save for the most hardcore fans who would rank then as such. But it terms of sheer cultural and commercial impact as well as being a collection of highly entertaining films, I think it's hard to overrate them.
