It's kind of stunning how much the Christmas Season box office has fallen

Vividly remember going to the Christmas Day (or the following day or two) with loads of family and friends in packed theaters for years and years and now it's all but vanished.
My local theater wasn't even open on Christmas Day this year, which would have been a mad business decision barely 10 yrs ago but now it doesn't even matter.
The "big" Xmas Day films were a second tier animated video game movie and a vampire horror film that should have been released 2 months ago.
It's like the movie business intentionally cratered it's entire business model.

I was always a movie buff and loved going to the theaters.
I've been to two movies in the theater the past 5 years.
Haven't missed a damn thing. Hollywood is a garbage factory now.

Sonic series has honestly been probably the most successful kids franchise of the last few years.

Christmas day movies were virtually nonexistent before 2000. This year's Christmas day box office numbers were basically the same as last year's, which were up from the previous few years, and were in line with numbers in 2010 and 2011, just barely more than 10 years ago.
I'm sorry your one local theater is lame.

The movie theatre experience as a whole has changed. I worked as a manager of a movie theatre in late 90s. Christmas afternoon and night used to have big crowds.
Now with streaming services where a movie could be available to watch at home is just more convenient. People will spend money for their TV and audio setup. No need to go to the theatre and pay ridiculous amount on concessions. Or to deal with people who will either talk or be on their phone while movie is playing.
Also the movie quality is down.

Probably gonna check out Nosferatu on New Year’s Day.

It's "almost" like many had been predicting, what with the scamdemic, the lockdowns and then a writers strike.
And let's not forget the forced DEI garbage that's filtered its way into every production.
Some studios are getting the message, bit it won't be a quick turnaround.

Same.
I've only seen one movie in the theater this whole entire year.

Christmas season was usually when the good Oscar level movies were out. Nothing this year.

Really good point, if you ignore Wicked and A Complete Unknown, two very likely Best Picture nominees.
And also Nosferatu and Babygirl, two outside shots at best picture with likely nominations in other categories.
And if you live in a city, you likely still have access to Anora and A Real Pain, two more likely Best Picture nominees, both featuring a performance currently the favorite to win its respective acting category.
But yeah, nothing, really.

2010 US pop - 309M
2024 US pop - 336M

He doesn’t care about any of that he’s just here to shill for whatever’s the biggest brand being talked about.

Streaming big arse cheap tvs mixed with pedos and wokism can really make a dent in the bottom line lol

And how much more does a ticket cost today versus 2010/2011? So adjusting for ticket cost inflation the gross number of tickets sold would be way down.

Last Christmas Day movie we saw was The Force Awakens.
Been a while since we went to the theater on Christmas....

It is.
I was arguing the OP's initial point, not saying theaters are better than ever. I believe the OP's wording about christmas theater-going was...

and now it's all but vanished.
$60 million dollars worth of people is a hell of a lot more than the $1-5 million dollars theaters nationwide were earning throughout the 90s, when theaters were booming.
It has not "all but vanished". It has fallen since the mid-2010s, but it is still a healthy box office weekend.
Wtf is Madking talking about "brands" for?
The average price for a movie ticket in 2011 was $7.93. In 2023 it was $10.78. I assume we'll have 2024 numbers in several weeks. And this would matter if my points was "more people are going to the theater on christmas day than ever before," which it was not. Anything else I can quickly Google for people?
