"Causes" have taken over what was once supposed be rewarding excellence and quality.

I can see how some would feel Dunkirk was not the best film of the year (it's a stretch, but personal tastes differ), but it's basically inarguable that it's one of the finest Directing efforts of recent memory.

Just watch for the SAG and DGA awards and we'll have our answer that the "fix", more or less, is in.

Shame on Mr. Nolan that he be male and for not rewriting history all in the name of inclusiveness!!

Academy Awards generally follow form from Golden Globes but no actor is going to win best actor or supporting. It would only be for director or cinematography would be something it should be up for.

I haven't yet seen Dunkirk, although I plan to.

It looks like it's ripe for a ton of technical awards.

Why do you care about rich people giving other rich people awards? So many of them are so far removed from real adversity in life that their opinions shouldn't matter. All that matters is if you were entertained.

Posting this thread after the day’s big winners are Big Little Lies, the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Three Billboards, and Lady Bird doesn’t really make sense.

Dunkirk was a good film (Great cinematography). But I can think of 5+ films from 2017 that are better than it.

Dunkirk was a great movie.

Three Billboards and Ladybird were better.

It truly was horrible. And I'm a huge war movie fan.

Dunkirk has Christopher Nolan, Tom Hardy, and Cillian Murphy.

It hits the M/TV Board Knob-Slobbering Trifecta.

I liked Dunkirk a lot, but it's just not the best movie this year. It's not the best directed movie this year. It doesn't have any award worthy performances. Really, it's only chance of winning is technical awards, and those are tough categories this year. If it doesn't win much, it's not because of "causes."

I never understand people that pay so much attention to any of the award shows. Oscars, Grammys, Espys....it's all a bunch of rich fricks patting themselves on the back.

It's not a stretch at all. About half the people I know that saw it didn't like it and a few outright hated it.

This board's constant Nolan taint sniffing is funny.

I’d say this board is far more anti-Nolan than critics and the general public.
