Weird how Ripley and Sarah Connor were heroines to us growing up innit?
Almost like we are going to reject DEI replacement characters that are clear ripoffs of already established male heroes because they’re pushing an agenda

This is less inspiring or connected to anything of substance & imagination than Wakanda.
The character is derivative and clearly a clumsy transplant of Tony Stark's abilities grafted onto a strong young WOC with attitude and a selfish desire to be iconic. Whatever the hell that even means.
Who the frick relates to her? What message is her story sending? What real world traits are being promoted by her that anyone really needs to see or embody?
Howard Stark was clearly a comic version of Howard Hughes. A real & bigger than life person found in the fabric of American history. Who is Riri suppose to be?
The entire concept is garbage. The comic sales were trash, yet the M-She-U must be forced upon the public, like the WNBA. Because there needs to be a redress of balance or some chit.

It says the show isn't good but it will also bring out trolls taking this as an opportunity to scream woke and MSheU bullshite.
Like all those trolls who came out of the woodwork for Black Panther? Or more recently SINNERS?
And don't forget all that hate stirred up with the BLADE movies, or the mockery of OLD Wesley Snipes in DxW...
Oh, wait. That never happened.
Ooops.

I haven't watched the show yet, we probably will today. Before I watch, though, the name thing bothers me a little. Riri is this woman.

Dont worry about it. In 10ish years AI will have improved enough that you can just press a button and the entire cast of the show will be swapped to white males like the Ironheart you grew up with and loved.

There were plenty of people on here who started threads about how Black Panthers was overrated AF and how it was only getting good reviews and press because of it being a black superhero

It's the new "CRT."
It's a white-washed (pun intended) way to say the n-word.

I have no specific intention of watching it, mostly due to Marvel fatigue and the fact that we canceled Disney+ (and this show isn't enough for me to bother renewing).
That said... how could I hate a show that hasn't even come out yet?

Not the point, though. What i was trying to get at is the preemptive attacking of fans/critics, before the show hits.
Similar to what happened with The Acolyte.
Other people started accusing me of hating it before it came out, and I kept repeating " I don't hate the show. I'm gonna watch it. I think it can be good. I hope it is."
Pretty much the way I am with nearly all content I consume.
But nope, the strawman became the focus.
I even got accused of hating Brie Larson, which i never did. I caught shite on here for defending CM when it came out.
The wokies derailed the thread by making me some caricature of an anti-woke mascot. It was pretty wild. . .but fun

Makes me giggle everytime
Everything they have no answer for, is just evil whitey's way to say the n-word.
Which is itself an inherently bigoted notion. Everytime i see it, I know everything about the automaton that said it. Like a cliff's notes biography.
Just like when I hear some guy say "why is it ok for black people to have {some random awards show or channel nobody watches}, but white people can't"
They are equivalent to me in the horseshoe theory sense

Marvel fans are fans of the characters they recognize.
Why not make the characters we like?
The Surfer thing is a prime example. That was a deliberate thumb in the eye of fans. Everyone knows it. But pointing it out makes you an anti-woke crusader, and all the ist/phobes.
Nobody grew up loving Shalla as Surfer. She has no fans. She existed in a throwaway story for about 3 panels.

How does it make you feel that the way they portray the black culture is:
Being “iconic” (what a great character attribute),
Being morally bankrupt (academic misconduct),
Being a felon (burglary)
?

My biggest issue with the character when she was introduced to us in the last BP movie was the fact that we saw Tony Stark go through iteration after iteration of the Iron Man suit, and then he struggled to fully gain control of it and harness its abilities. It took her like a weekend

There's so much baked in assumption in that post.

Is the desire to be iconic a heroic trait?
Seems like a villain's motivation
Would be a fun twist, if she ends the series with a heel turn

Just jumping in the thread to point out Ironheart wrapped filming in 2022 and they're just putting it out now.
There's a reason for that and the bad reviews shouldn't be surprising to anyone

It's a shame what happened with her, because if you see interviews she did earlier in her career she was warm, charismatic, and could play off anything. Such a far cry from the interviews she did for Endgame.
Her interviews with Craig Ferguson would have led people to believe she was going to be the next darling of Hollywood.

She said a dumb thing that got unfairly blown out of proportion
When she showed up on Fallon with her tits out, the internet mostly forgave her.
A great rack and the willingness to display it for men's enjoyment overrides minor feminist sound bytes.
It was a clear apology to men, I felt.

Im sure she appreciates your sympathies. Starring in Fast and Furious movies and Apple TV series and being paid millions must be very tough for her.
