That’s a tall order, I know.

I watched the movie again for the first time in a long time over Christmas and it’s just fantastic. I do think it’s a masterpiece. A true odyssey of a gunfighter.

“You a bounty hunter?”

“Man’s got to do something for a living nowadays.”

“Dyin’ ain’t much of a livin’, boy.”

“Should we bury those two fellas?”

“Hell with those two fellas. Buzzard’s gotta eat, same as a worm.”

“Well? You gonna pull those pistols or just stand there whistlin’ Dixie?”

It would have been the greatest until the end with the old lady and his ugly wife, Sondra Locke.

Unforgiven is better, and maybe the greatest.

I'd lean Unforgiven, but I do love The Outlaw Josey Wales as well.

It's Top 10 for sure.

Top 5 for some.

But in that Too 10 you have so many choices...the Spaghettis, the John Waynes, some modern classics and of course the best...

I vote Lonesome Dove if it would be accepted.

I'd love to see another serial Western. I know there was Deadwood, but it was just a little too gratuitous with the cocksucking. A serious attempt at telling a story in an episodic format would be fantastic.

I think of this one as the Goodfellas of westerns.

Big cast, big hype, average movie.

The good, the bad, and the ugly and Once upon a Time in the West are my top two westerns personally, but Josey Wales would definitely be top 5 for me.

And I certainly wouldn't argue against anyone who had it as their number one western.

I totally agree with you about Tombstone. It's a pretty hokey movie. I do not agree with the comp to Goodfellas. That's an all timer baw.

Unforgiven is the GOAT.

It's on the list.

Also worth considering: High Noon and Unforgiven

The Searchers is the greatest, but OJW and Unforgiven are maybe a count hair away. I give it to The Searchers simply because of the way it was shot. You get a lot of those big vista shots of the west in many of the key scenes. The cabin silhouette shot of John Wayne with monument valley opening up is an all time classic shot. Otherwise , I could watch those three and The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallence on a non stop loop everyday.

Speaking of Clint he's 90 years old and in post-production of his latest movie.

I swear the guy must believe if he doesn't keep acting and directing he's going die.

quote:

Cry Macho will star Clint Eastwood as a onetime rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder who, in 1978, takes a job from an ex-boss to bring the man's young son home and away from his alcoholic mom.

Crossing rural Mexico on their back way to Texas, the unlikely pair faces an unexpectedly challenging journey, during which the world-weary horseman may find his own sense of redemption through teaching the boy what it means to be a good man.
