Is the Fantastic Four a cursed movie franchise?

I blame roger korman

every time its been tried, its been a disaster. first, korman's movie was yanked and ended up on grainy pirate VHS tapes.

then the jessica alba blockbuster was COMPLETELY thrown into shambles with the release of The Incredibles a couple of months prior..they literally went back and redid all the CGI and it still sucked.

then whoever made the decision to turn one of the most recognizable badies, Galactus..into a swirling dust cloud..

now, we're in the post-Endgame Marvel fatigue era where so much mediocre and terrible shite like the Ms Marvel franchise have turned off most of the fanbase...

...and we're gonna release FF again at a time when its probably guaranteed to have lots of woke-e-ness and when nobody gives a damn about marvel.

such a shame; FF was my favorite comic growing up WAY out front of Spiderman, XMen and Avengers.

Yes. Cursed by being The Fantastic Four .

They’re about as lame as it gets. It’s in the title.

That's always how I have felt about FF4, and I read comics in the early-mid 90s. I think they're valued by Generation X and Boomers, mostly.

Judging the Fantastic Four characters by the films is like deciding that the Beatles suck based on William Shatner’s cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman's powers are kind of lame and the stories and cast have been pretty bad. I have no hope for the new version.

Mr. Fantastic's greatest ability is his mind. He is the smartest character in the ENTIRE marvel universe. Part of the charm of the Fantastic Four comics was Reed figuring out how to overcome obstacles combing all of the team's abilities. His "super" power isn't meant to be extremely powerful.

Invisible woman is the most powerful member on the team. Which again isn't portrayed well on film. Not only can she make herself and others invisible but create fields that can be used in many different ways.

If anything, she's too powerful. Once they revealed/retconned that she could produce force bubbles in someone's bloodstream and cause an instant aneurysm, they needed to pump the brakes.

A mid to top-level powered Sue would be great in a movie, though.

This

If you can't enjoy the genius-fueled moral and scientific ambiguity that is Reed Richards. . .Superhero stuff just isn't your cup of tea

Not trying to hijack- but if you haven't already, check out the series Planetary by Warren Ellis. It has a takeoff of the FF that is pretty disturbing and shows how things could have gone for Marvel. HIGH recommendation.

I never had an issue with the Alba FF films. Julian McMahon played a decent doom imho.

but i do agree - no actual Galactus was inexcusable.

I do think it is funny that Evans has been in 2 Marvel Franchises, a DC movie, Scott Pilgrim and Push.

Snowpiercer was also adapted from a comic series.

they screwed up the Inhumans as well. that series was shite..absolute shite.

they could easily introduce so many new characters va series of FF movies

- Galactus (duh)
- High Evolutionary (screwed that up in GoTG)
- Frightful 4
- Inhumans...lockjaw deserved better
- annihilus/Negative Zone/counter Earth
- Salem 7
- Impossible Man (done right he was a good character)
- Dr Doom
- Submariner

Deadpool x Wolverine will also obliterate this narrative

see I didn't think they screwed up the High Evolutionary - just a unique take on him. and make no mistake, he was fricking good in that movie.

No Way Home was nostalgia bait.

I did a rewatch a few months ago and once you get over the old guys coming back, the movie kinda sorta sucks. This also has to do with how the film was shot, once you notice how restricted the movie was because of COVID you start wondering more about what could have been compared to the experience we got.

ETA Deadpool x Wolverine, nostalgia bait as well. Had to bring Hugh Jackman back from the character's retirement to get some positive hype again. Eventually Marvel won't be able to lean on that crutch.

And don't get me started with Aquaman controlling the bacteria in the human body like he controls fish and aquatic mammals.
