I watched it this past weekend for probably the 20th time, but also probably for the 1st time in 10+ years. It really seems nearly perfect. And it's in no way obvious that it was filmed in the 90s.

What was Darabont doing before he burst on the scene with this? The direction is just so high quality.

To be fair, it is a fantastic period piece made with modern cinematography - so those are always going to age well.

Take Goodfellas, for example. Another well-aging movie.

Frankly, because of Kubrick's genius, 2001 has aged pretty damned well - that film was made in the late 1960s, folks. Beautiful, masterful, timeless.

Example of great writing, casting, acting, directing and cinematography all coming together under a phenomenal human experience story. It really is just about perfect.

TNT has made a lot of money rerunning that movie.

I kind of think The Sandlot has aged well.

I'll watch this movie whenever I come across it on tv. Love Redford's voice as the narrator

I have always thought it’s the most well-made movie ever.

From 2004-2014 TNT was "The Shawshank Channel."

Warner Bros. wouldn't say how much it makes from licensing "Shawshank" to TV, but according to former and current studio executives speaking with the WSJ, it's one of the highest valued feature films in Warner Bros' $1.5 billion library.

It was shown 50 times alone in 2013. There are 52 Saturdays in a year.

So that means, only two Saturdays in the entire year, Shawshank wasn't on TNT during the day.

Is it really the #1 IMDB movie of all-time or have we all been fricking brainwashed? Seriously, this is some 1984 conditioning.

Oh look, tomorrow is Saturday. I have to do laundry, fix the roof, mow the lawn and watch Shawshank...because you know, it's on.

Andy could have made it easier for Red to find the lunch box.

It's hard for me to think that any prison doesn't change the cells of inmates in decades though.

Completely agree. Shawshank is a great, great, geat movie... But it's obviously not #1.

Godfather, Goodfellas have aged great as well. They're also all period pieces. That makes a difference.

I'd say though that Wizard of Oz and Adventures of Robin Hood have aged the best of all...especially Robin Hood.

That film is 80 f-ing years old and is still extremely fun and watchable.

I also agree with the Kubrick sentiment. I don't know if it's because of how he framed his shots so uniquely or if the "coldness" of his movies actually lends itself to no trend.

Dr. Strangelove onward are all basically timeless. And when you watch Eyes Wide Shut it feels like it shouldn't have been made in 1999. Compared to the way the camera moves it looks just like his other stuff from the 60s 70s and 80s.

Wizard of Oz came out in 1939.

The Oklahoma Kid came out in 1939.

Starring Jimmy Cagney.

And a Shirley Temple movie.

Those movies look like they were filmed by the Lumière brothers compared to Wizard of Oz.

Yeah but Jimmy was the 30's star...that's how old Oklahoma Kid looks in comparison to Oz. Jimmy was barely removed from the silent era.

Bogey was the 40's star.

This was his only cowboy role. It is a key reference from Goodfellas, when Spider got shot the first time.
