It drags in the middle.

To be fair, it is a fantastic period piece made with modern cinematography - so those are always going to age well.
This is a big factor. Raiders of the Lost Ark is similar. Period pieces are always simpler because they're designed to be anchored in the past and don't have to age.
I'm a homer because I love the movie, but I'd put Jurassic Park up as a movie that has aged very well for its period. Its CGI looks better than most CGI from 10-12 years later. It has some dated early 90's technology, but the production quality makes some of the dinosaur sequences look better than Jurassic World, which is insane when you think about the time and tech gap.

And a Shirley Temple movie.
Those movies look like they were filmed by the Lumière brothers compared to Wizard of Oz

Love Shawshank. Only thing that gets me is how Andy didn't go crazy wondering why his cell wall was so gotdamn thick. Thing must have been like 6ft thick and took nearly 20 years to get through!

Honestly...
Why didn't Andy get a more conservative poster?
His bible-thumping Warden, Andy was just asking to be searched.
Put up a poster of Jesus, Warden ain't throwing stones at that.

Would Kevin Costner have made the movie more, less, or the same of a classic?

I kind of think The Sandlot has aged well.
Hell yea it has.

Can't really imagine anyone other than Tim Robbins playing Andy. Don't think Costner would have been as good.
