Is he a great actor?
Meh. I don't know. He isn't the drizzling poo. Sure he gets his ration of abuse for the Twilight series but there is no shortage of good actors who have been in terrible movies.
Here is the key to casting Batman. Cast someone who takes the role seriously and accepts they might be the third or fourth most interesting character in the movie. George Clooney giving a "wink, wink, nod, nod" Batman was horrifically bad.

I liked Map to the Stars but he was a minor character in that. I plan to see Cosmopolis in the near future. I'm watching those movies because its Cronenberg though, not for Pattinson.

I agree that he is a great actor, but he is not Batman. Dude will fail miserably in this role
