Is Miami Vice the best bad movie ever?

-The plot makes no sense, you are lost among the mumbling and the jargon from almost the first scene and at least half of the film
-the script is largely terrible: Yero: “Other than Nicholas, who the frick knows you?”
Crockett: “My mommy and daddy know me."
-Gong Li is one of the worst casting decisions I've ever seen. Not only is she not attaractive enough to seduce Crockett that way, but I literally think she had no idea what she was saying at all in the film. It's like someone told a total non-English speaking person how to say words, and she just said them. There was virtually no connection with her speaking and her emotions.
-Colin Farrell gives one of the most self serious, bizarre, bewildering performances of his or any other career. One scene he even had a southern accent then it was gone the rest of the film.
And saying all this...I still watch the movie every time it's on tv and am somehow compelled by it. It has one of the best boat scenes maybe in film history and the films use of music is pretty spot on for the time it was made. But that alone shouldn't make people watch it. Maybe it's such a beautiful disaster or who knows. But whatever Michael Mann was smoking when he made this, he either really knew what he was doing, or he really didn't. It almost feels like the movie was made day to day, with no real plan at all.

He acts like a pirate throughout the movie. A fricking pirate.

Is it Highlander 2 or Norbit bad? No, of course not. But there are so many bizarre decisions made for such a high quality movie, that it definitely warrants its reputation.

You lost me at Gong Li not being attractive enough.
Shootout at the end is one of my favorite scenes from Michael Mann.

I'm a huge Michael Mann fan... I love his style but yes this is a very forgettable movie.

Not gonna lie...I enjoy this movie. And the final shootout is nice.
It is so mid-2000s.

Had one of the best trailers ever
At least to 17 year old me

It's a pretty solid movie but it works if you don't bother trying to connect or compare it to the TV series and just look at it as a movie called "Miami Vice"
It wasn't the 80's anymore so if you were expecting Colin Farrell to be wearing pastel shirts and chilling on his boat with his pet alligator, you were already walking in with the wrong expectations.
However, I see the point of view that they should have just called the movie "Undercover" or something like that and named the leads Smith and Jones and made something truly separate.

I'm pretty sure the trailer is what got me as well, cause i was around 17 or so. If I'm not mistaken, the trailer used something from Linkin Park - Meteora, and it sold my friend and me enough to go watch it. What a letdown for us
I've liked it more as I've gotten older. Mann movies can be a hit or miss but he definitely became an acquired taste for me

I think I'm still scarred by the expectations of this movie because of the trailer and the marketing, and what it actually turned out to be.
As I said, I actually do enjoy this film now and it has some very very good and unique scenes, but when my friends and I all went and saw this, we were as pumped as anything we had ever seen.
Then, after the film, we all came out of the theater with the same, mystified and confused looks on our faces and basically made fun of Colin Farrell and whatever the hell he was doing the entire way home.
It is the quintissential mismarketing hype train of recent memory.

That movie is criminally under appreciated and got worse reviews than it should have.

You must loathe Vaughn, he was by far the worst part of that season.

That title will forever belong to Face/off. Forever. No competition.

I'm a huge Michael Mann fan. I never watched this movie because the casting looked awful from the get go and I was a fan of the television show (which usually means I pass on the movie).
Having said that, my only real beef with the movie is that we basically got that movie from Mann instead of a Gates of Fire adaptation (Thermopylae, but realistic, not heavily exaggerated fantasy like 300).
Rumor had it that Clooney and Willis were going to play Xerxes and Leonidas, with Mann directing. That would have been something, if true.
