Is Blazing Saddles a racist movie?

Yeah, the white people are generally portrayed as morons and the hero is a black guy.
But the funniest scenes and most memorable quotes involve racism.
Except for "Mongo only pawn in game of life."

Director was Jewish. No racism.

It's a movie that makes fun of racists, so no, it's ironically the opposite.

It is the hipster of racist comedies.

If it was made today, yes. Since it was made in the 70s, no.

It veils itself as making fun of racists which allows it to use racist jokes freely

It uses satire to make commentary about racism. It is not racist.
Was All in the Family racist?

Where all the white women at??

By the modern standards of political correctness it would definitely be considered a racist movie. The fact is that it makes fun of racism, and that is part of what makes it so funny. It is able to effectively make a very serious issue seem silly. The best comedy makes light of serious issues, and it can more candidly present them by using humor.

"Isn't anyone going to help that poor man?"
"Hush, Harriet, that's a sure way to get him killed!"

Didn't know Pryor worked on it.
Still, wouldn't matter today. Race is a religion now. Cultural Marxism is a bitch.

You think race is more of a religion now than 40 years ago?

Django was a ton more "racist" that blazing saddles. Blazing Saddles was meant to show how silly racism is, which makes it anti-racist
