Let me guess... One of the main characters is black, Hispanic and/or LGBTQ?
Well… it is Interview with the Vampire.

I think it's one of Tom Cruise's most underrated roles. He acted circles around Brad Pitt's boring arse
This.
I remember before the movie came out people thinking that Cruise wasn't a good fit.
Turns out Brad Pitt was the weak link.

I’ve read the source novel and I’ve seen the movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. While the series did race swap several characters and change the time period, the gay subtext, which was omitted from the film, is taken directly from the novel. I’m not sure how I feel about the show yet, but they did get the feel of NOLA right and Sam Reid is a much better Lestat than Tom Cruise was.
I read the main three. interview, lestat and queen.
Gay as shite, those books but really good reads.
We didn't need another Interview creation. We needed The Vampire Lestat. Much better book than Interview.

You probably didn't find a thread on it because it was discussed earlier on basis of the trailer. and many (like myself) aren't going to waste time on yet another thing that is a "reinvention" of an established, almost classic work.
Tell me you don’t know a thing about Anne Rice and her novels without telling me…
This show so far is much closer to the spirit and text than the film, just making aspects that were heavily implicit more explicit. Once again some are holding up a bastardization and whining when a remake is in fact actually closer to the original work.
This performative outrage really is ridiculous lol

The first 2 episodes are absolutely fantastic and even with the time period/race changes its more true to the source material than 99% of the adapted works the last couple of decades.
Don't sweat the downvotes OP. Most if not all of those downvoting have only seen the trailer. If that.

I'm not forced to watch anything. I would just would like better choices. Shitty superhero movies (and I loved Guardians I) and vampires are limiting better movies.

I think Sam Reid is a much better actor than Tom Cruise, but I think both versions of Lester were off base. Both are portrayed as a little to cultured in both of the films. I'm the novel, Lestat was portrayed as a somewhat low class hyper violent animal. Louie was dominated by Lestat in just about every area, except class and social status, this was the only area that Louis could hold over Lestat.

As a fan of the book, I am a little torn on the recent version on AMC.
The political correct hierarchy says the lead character must be black and gay, and we must change the setting so slavery is never shown.
But, the series stands on it's own very well, if you resist comparing it to the novel. The dialogue is great, the acting is great and the general mood and look of the series is pretty good. Worth a watch.

Mini spoilers.
I love the Anne Rice books.
This is…
…not the story at all.
I only got through the first episode. It would be a great show if it weren’t called IWTV.
So tired of networks/studios getting the rights just so they can get a built in audience then crap on the original material.
To rebut those who say this version is closer to the book:
Lestat is all wrong. He doesn’t insert himself into New Orleans society. He uses Louis for that. Lestat kills to feed; he doesn’t punch people through the head. He turns Louis the first time he attacks him. Leaving out the line “I’m going to give you the choice I never had.” is a travesty. It’s so crucial to his character as revealed in the second book, The Vampire Lestat.
Louis has no connection to his family at all by the time he meets Lestat. He has no idea that Lestat is a vampire when he’s turned.
Clearly, the show runners wanted to tell a different story. They’ve changed too much of the story in just one episode for the purpose of shoehorning in a 21st century worldview rather than telling a story that has characters whose attitudes and behaviors fit into the actual time period.

I agreed with you after watching the first two episodes, but after watching the 3rd, I am now pretty disappointed with the turn that it has take with the introduction of Claudia. She's portrayed as with all the problems that a teen girl has (crushes, bratty behavior, emotional, etc.) The fact that she is a vampire is only coincidental, and not the main driving force behind her behavior, as it should be. Also, the series has really tried hard to connect Louie with his family. To do this, they must have his family conduct most of their life during (Christmas parties, funeral wakes, etc.) the night, which is a little silly.
