Rewatched it last night for first time since I saw it in theatres and I forgot how great this movie is. The Bear Jew introduction scene, the theatre scene, Mexican standoff scene are pure gold.

It is neck and neck with Django for me.

I still haven't seen Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

One of the great and most fitting cinematic musical themes of recent memory. LINK

I also think the bar scene is way too long, but it's nitpicking.

I love the use of David Bowie's "Cat People" in the scene where Shoshonna is preparing the theater for the massacre.

The opening with Landa and LaPadite is IMO one of the best scenes in cinematic history. The interrogation is so full of nuances, that it speaks to numerous re-watches. BTW LaPadite's daughter, Charlotte gives it away early on that the Jews were hiding in the floorboard. Landa was simply toying with LaPadite afterwards.

The bar scene is the topping on the cake. I lived in Germany for 3 years and instantly saw what gave him away.

There wasn't enough Basterd action for me, but still a lot of fun.

It was boring as shite and down there with Jackie Brown and Hollywood as one of Quentin Tarantino's worst movies. But thankfully, it wasn't as bad as Deathproof.

Christopher Walz did some amazing acting in that movie.

The dude was a charming killer.

i remember people complaining how out of place it was when the movie came out. then tarantino goes and puts a rick ross song in his next movie set in the 1800s

The rapid character development and tension in that scene makes it the best in the movie imo. The tension is set before they even enter the pub when hugo is sharpening his blade. Then they arrive, expecting 2-3 german soldiers there, and there's damn near an entire platoon. The guy playing the SS officer did a great job. They then go on to humanize the drunk private during the standoff. Talking about his son Max, putting his trust in Aldo, and then they turn him into swiss cheese. Just an impeccable scene. The tension once the officer got up was palpable

Archie Hickocks: I need to know that you can remain calm in case of trouble?

Hugo: Do I not look calm to you?

Hickocks to Aldo: Stiglets is not exactly the loquacious type is he.

Aldo: Is that what you need, the loquacious type?

Pure gold dialogue.

It is amazing how many well done characters there are in the movie. Just some truly great all time characters created.

I find Diane Krueger extremely hot in that scene.

Love the period attire.

There were some good scenes here and there but that's about it.

The opening scene was exhausting, because it went on waaaaay too fricking long. It went from being suspenseful and edgy to "just get on with this shite already".

The bar scene was good, it kept it's edge but again went on longer than it needed to. It almost turned into the watch tapper the opening scene became.

The only legitimately "tense" scene was the strudel and creme scene. That started and stopped perfectly and it was the only moment in the movie where my chest got a little tight. That scene worked so well because it wasn't needlessly drawn out.

The movie closed out ok, with the premiere and ensuing hijinks. The jew bear scene was also fun.

But there was alot of filler and needless dialogue in this movie. It would've been so much better had this been somewhat reminiscent of the bills, where maybe the basterds were hunting down individual nazi's or some shite like that or just maybe going on a few different missions. In other words, more action and less talk.

There was a fun, campy action movie hiding in there somewhere and a better story could've brought it out. The story and script sucked.

Oh and finally. What does it say about this movie that Mike Meyers delivered the second best performance?
