Seven Psychopaths ins't quite as good, but it does have Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken, so that makes up for a lot.

Whenever, this movie gets brought up, I always go back to the dinner date scene. Its so perfect. The two characters are absolutely honest in what they do, but they both think the other is just being cool, hiding behind a layer of irony. It's really a great, sad moment in funny, whip smart dialogue.

I do feel the ending is a bit like Drugstore Cowboy, but they don't have a monopoly on monologues in ambulances.

So hot

And gets naked in other movies.

I recently was told to watch In Bruges and fricking loved it. Dialogue is some of the best I've seen in any film...ever.

It strikes a balance between drama and comedy, like a a big fat fricking retarded fricking black girl on a see-saw opposite... a dwarf.

I love it; it's in my top ten from the aughts.

fricked one of the "hot" twins that Jonah hill talks to in the party scene.

As for in Bruges it's a fantastic movie. Should have been nominated for best picture.

Great movie. I can't recall a film that was able to mix comedy, drama, and suspense as well as In Bruges.

Love that movie!

One of my favorite scenes.

Ken: Harry, let's face it. And I'm not being funny. I mean no disrespect, but you're a count. You're a count now, and you've always been a count. And the only thing that's going to change is that you're going to be an even bigger count. Maybe have some more count kids.

Harry: Leave my kids fricking out of it! What have they done? You fricking retract that bit about my count fricking kids!

Ken: I retract that bit about your count fricking kids.

Harry: Insult my fricking kids? That's going overboard, mate!

Ken: I retracted it, didn't I?

Great movie. The Guard was awesome as well. Cavalry was really good, but don't expect the same amount of humor as Bruges/Guard. Psychos was meh. I need to give it another watch, though.

quote:

Ken: This morning, and this afternoon, we are doing what I want to do. Got it?
Ray: Of course. Which, I presume, will involve culture.
Ken: We shall strike a balance between culture and fun.
Ray: Somehow I believe, Ken, that the balance shall tip in the favor of culture, like a big fat fricking retarded fricking black girl on a see-saw opposite... a dwarf.

OK

In Bruges is just a great movie. And Seven Psychopaths, Calvary, and The Guard are all very good as well. Gleeson is at least as strong in Calvary as he is in Bruges (though the movie isn't quite as strong), just watched it for the third time.

In Bruges is a perfect movie

I had always considered it a 5/5, but upon rewatching it, I may give it a seat at the 6 Star table—a hallowed space that houses the likes of Pan's Labyrinth, Spirited Away, Pulp Fiction, and No Country For Old Men, among others. I only break my 5 star rule for the rare movies for which I can't think of a single thing I'd change. I believe that In Bruges falls into this category.

I'd probably agree. I have the same kind of list. 5 movies or so that I feel 1) I wouldn't change anything 2) Do EXACTLY what they set out to do, without faltering.

I had never heard of this movie until this thread, one that fell through the cracks I guess. I watched it last night and thought it was fantastic, I laughed the whole way through, even in parts where it was extremely inappropriate. Thanks for brining it to my attention Carson. Instantly one of my favorites.

As far as 21st century movies, it's firmly in my top 25. Other than "A Serious Man", I can't think of a dark comedy of the 2000s that comes close.

quote:

The script is brilliantly written. Not a single second of wasted conversation. Everything hilariously comes back into the fold, be it the Canadians getting Ray thrown off the train, the fatass Americans getting the tower shut down, the one-eyed thief getting chastised by Harry, etc. The characters are great and it's downright hilarious. Perfect execution of dark comedy

I don't hate that logic and I agree with most of this but I'm not ready to go quite as far as you in calling it "perfect". In the Mood for Love and There Will be Blood are the only 21st century movies I might go that far with. To each his own.

quote:

Colin Farrell gives the best performance of his life, Gleeson plays the perfect mentor figure, Harry is the ideal hysterical mob boss.

I completely agree.
