...and halfway through the 4th season. I find the show rather depressing, but very good. I really feel sorry for some of those kids like Randy, Dukie, and Namond.

I'm in the middle of a rewatch now, too. I can tell the Season 2 haters - this is now my 4th time through the series - Season 2 gets better each time.

I'm going to go ahead and say it - 2 is as good as any Wire season, except Season 1. Yes, as good as (or better than) 3.

Frank, Nick, Boris, Vondas - the whole human trafficking and "working class woes" of the docks - great writing and acting and just fantastic television.

As to your point, Season 4's focus on Bunny and the "corner boys" was also both depressing and good. You get a deeper appreciation of what's going on in the inner cities where we hand teachers, administrators and law enforcement teaspoons and tell them to start bailing the metaphorical Titanic.

Anyone who enjoyed this aspect of The Wire should love The Chi.

I’m also rewatching and am on season four.

I skip past the school kid parts. I just don’t find them interesting at all. Just give me Marlo.

You know the kids essentially represent young versions of many of the major adult characters. Dukie = Bubs, Michael = Omar, etc

Season Four is an excellent example of what is wrong with the American inner city: politics, greed, and corruption, all at the expense of those the politicians are supposed to "help."

I'm on my first rewatch - mid-way through season 2. As a season 2 hater on my first run, I now have no idea what I hated. Season 2 is great.

most people only appreciate season 2 after completing the series and seeing the s2 characters return in the later seasons.

I was never a Season 2 hater - but I get it. It's jarring - just a sudden shift from what we were used to. Heck, some of my favorite scenes are from Season 2 - Bunk and Freamon questioning the ship's crew. McNulty affecting an English accent (Dominic West is actually British, playing Baltimore native McNulty and had to do that accent in character, which he does brilliantly). Bodie coming into his own. Almost any scene with Vondas, Boris or the Greek - those cats were absolutely fantastic actors.

Poor Wallace even though he shouldn't have been snitching. Probably feel the worse for Duquan.

Just about done rewatching. Agree season 2 is very good. Not sure why I didn’t get it first time.

How would the wire be different today?

Nah. McNulty and Prez would be doing it all - McNulty had the "federal" connection and Prez would do all the in house analysis. Might need Syndor for undercover work or just to be in 2 places at the same time.

My only complaint is that Zig is one of the most annoying characters of all time. And Nick's neck Tattoo is beyond ridiculous.

Stringer Bell: That's good. That's like a 40-degree day. Ain't nobody got nothing to say about a 40-degree day. 50. Bring a smile to your face. 60, sh!t, ni**as is damn near barbecuing on that motherf*cker. Go down to 20, ni**as get their b!tch on. Get their blood complaining. But 40? Nobody give a f*ck about 40. Nobody remember 40, and y'all ni**as is giving me way too many 40-degree days! What the f*ck?

I need to finish watching the series. Back when Blockbuster was still going, I watched the first two or three seasons, then Blockbuster closed, and I just never got around to finishing it. But I loved the seasons I did watch, as it's a very well-done series. I've got it in my Netflix queue now.

The Wire is the best show ever, except maybe Breaking Bad.
