Ideas Elba is great and I would 100% support him as Bond.

Idris is right about the black Bond thing. James Bond is a white dude, nothing wrong with that. I've never understood why they didn't have other 00 agents in the movies. Idris won't be 007, but he could have been 004 or 005 or 009, etc. Do some buddy cop stuff and a spin off or two. Profit.

Elba’s in great shape, but maybe a little too old to be an active agent. I am not opposed to him having some role in the bond movies, but with his age would probably need to be a more senior leader position. On a side note, I really liked him as Duncan in MOTU. I think he was the right pick for that role.

I don't pretend to know the age norms of spy world, but in the military mid-50s is ancient, especially in combat arms. In professional athletics it's damned near unheard of. You don't get faster or stronger as you age, so I'd agree that Idris is getting too far up there.
I've probably seen all the Bond films but I'm not a "Bond fan". From the casual fan's perspective you just need a white guy, Scottish accent (although I'm probably an outlier there), old enough to have some experience but young enough to be proficient with violence.

I would love a movie where James and Idris’s characters are rivals who have good reasons not to trust each other, but are forced to work together to save the world, learning to trust, respect, and befriend each other along the way. A Bond movie where he has a partner to banter with and possibly compete with for Bond girls would be a fun twist on the formula. You could even up the tension by having Idris be from a different spy agency or law enforcement instead of Mi5 to help manufacture the tension.
Maybe Idris is interpol and is tracking Bond thinking he’s a suspect in a robbery tied to his espionage activities to keep the mcguffin from ending up in the hands if the bad guys. The bad guys get the drop on them and steal the mcguffin, so they have to work together to get it back. At the end of the movie, Idris gets recruited into Mi5, setting up spinoffs with him as 009 or something like that.
This is how you diversify a white character IP, not by race swapping or gender swapping the main character, but by introducing a new diverse character in a situation that makes sense, develop that character through an adventure with the main cast, and then let the diverse character lead a spinoff film/series. This can all be done without emasculating existing characters or disrespecting previous established lore.
