I weirdly like Romeo and Juliet (1996) - Leo is one cool dude in this movie

That intro with Radiohead playing in the background.

And the random Paul Rudd.

I love that movie. It's a legitimately unique take on an old tale. In a world of remakes that are just stale or flat, looking back on this stands out.

Elvis sucked. I liked Australia and Moulin Rouge.

Leo sucks in this movie

Like he does in most. Somewhere along the way he perfected the art of overacting and people bought it.

He’s the Shatner of this generation with no subtlety in his acting.

It was different and great. My only gripe is that they only used 5 notes from #1 Crush by Garbage, which was the best song on the soundtrack.

Solid remake.

I haven't rewatched it in a long time (my kids saw it in school, so it didn't make the home movie night list).

We just watched What's Eating Gilbert Grape on YouTube last night.
DiCaprio picks solid roles and does a solid job with them.

Leo was not good in this. His delivery was really clunky kinda. But I love the movie because of the style of it. Hard to explain. Its like a grunge/punk mixed with classical something. I dont know.

Righteous take. I think he's a terrible actor.

Yeah, it's weird and very 90s. I'm a sucker for 90s movies.

Having a hard time seeing early Leo in the same light after learning everything we did about his mentor Brian Peck, in the Quiet on Set miniseries about the Nickelodeon teen shows of the late 90s/early 2000s.

Someone like Leo probably had 9 different Brian Peck's over the early years.

But I definitely agree.
It is troubling to think of any young actor tasked with spending a significant amount of time with someone who can't control that type of perversion.

It was an interesting take on the classic tragedy by making the two families essentially mobsters in modern day California, and casting the Capulets as Latinos (with the exception of Juliet). I liked how they updated the setting but kept the original dialogue from the play.
