And the Death Star is even bigger in Rogue One.

My wife has never seen a Star Wars movie, and doesn't care to.

I showed her a picture of Darth Vader with no context, and she was able to immediately to me his name, then also added that she knew of R2-D2, Chewbacca, and "that gold robot guy."

In other words, Star Wars, and especially Darth Vader, has a unique and legendary place in popular culture. He is one of the most recognizable characters in film history. If a person was confused about Darth Vader then they were probably removed from society for most of the last 40 years, or some sort of cognitive/neurological issue.

Your criticism is one of the most absurd I've ever seen. It's like criticizing Space Jam for not explaining who Michael Jordan, Bill Murray, and the Looney Tooney characters are.

People were more excited to see Vader kill people than root for the group of protagonists. That seems backwards.

People will do anything to defend the prequels and shite on Disney. Thats the only logical explanation to dislike TFA and RO. They are an incredibly small minority who should be ignored.

TFA sucked. Fins hyped up black guy character was dumb. Rey defeating Kylo Ren was also dumb....and then there is the death star...screw JJ Adams

TFA was, what, 75% a rehash of A New Hope?

Did you even watch the movie?

The purpose of the film was not to give us another new super weapon. It was to give us something familiar with new characters to build on in order to win the fans back. Star killer Base itself was just a plot device and such a small part of this film in terms of building a new trilogy on. It's completely irrelevant going forward.

I think Rogue One is good but slightly overrated. The characters aren't well-developed and there are scenes that just make no sense and have no purpose. Chief among those is the scene between Bodhi and Saw Gerrera's mind-reading alien. It did nothing for the plot and had they cut that scene out it would have helped the film's pacing and not affected the story at all.

I also feel the final scene with Darth Vader on the rebel ship makes the scene between him and Obi-Wan in A New Hope more dated. To go from a quick-moving, unstoppable force to a lumbering old man in a matter of days just doesn't jive well with the continuity Rogue One is attempting to establish with A New Hope.

At the end of the day, I agree with Red Letter Media's assessment. Rogue One is nothing more than a fan film with high production values.

You're allowed to just throw him in with little explanation when the character is THE MOST ICONIC AND WELL KNOWN VILLAIN IN CINEMATIC HISTORY.

It's not irrelevant. The super weapon succeeded in its mission of wiping out multiple core worlds as well as the entire galactic republic government. That will be incredibly relevant going forward.

Yeah, y'all both have a point here. It's not all that relevant for TFA, but it will certainly be highly important in TLJ.

Absolutely. I've heard that the even larger Starkiller Base 2, and the shield generator that protects it, are a major part of an upcoming movie.

The last half of the movie is the only thing that holds up. I didn't care about any of tbe new characters outside of Jyn, Krennic, K2 and Galin. The Mexican actor had zero charisma.

I say this as someone who liked the movie, but I had no idea whether Cassian was a good guy or a bad guy until there were about 10 minutes left in the movie. His chemistry with Felicity Jones was terrible.

The Jedi monks had potential if their characters were fleshed out. I should have not expected character development based on Godzilla.

The movie really didn't need to go to the planet where Galen dies. He could have died on Jedha and saved a good chunk of the film.
