I rewatch Unforgiven every year or two. It just ages like fine wine.

Freeman, Hackman, and Eastwood.

Shot on film.

Masterpiece.

Is that the western with Sharon Stone & Leo in it?

I pray you're joking.

It's the ultimate slow burn with a finale that makes it worth the wait.

Well....they both had Gene Hackman in similar roles. But you're thinking of The Quick and the Dead, I believe.

The Quick and the Dead is a caricature of a western movie. It’s almost parody that’s takes itself too seriously.

I think the Quick and the Dead took itself too seriously and became a parody.

It thinks its a real western with a real dramatic and compelling story. But it's just a bunch of bad gun fights and illogically connected unlikable characters.

The best anti-Western for sure. The whole surpasses its admittedly great parts.

I don't take it too seriously either and that's why I love it. The dinner scene when Hackman is telling Sharon Stone the story of his father playing Russian Roulette with he and his mother then he dead eyed her and said "understand this, there is nothing on this Earth frightens me now...Nothing" is just pure Gene Hackman awesomeness

So many great lines - my two favorite:

"I was lucky in the order, but I've always been lucky when it comes to killing people"

and

"And that didn't scare Little Bill did it?"

I love Unforgiven. Always watch when it is on. Next one is Open Range. Robert Duvall is an American, Western Treasure.

That was a great role for Hackman as the town marshal in Big Whisky.

The most predictable thing about that movie for me was that I had a strong gut feeling the kid that initiated the whole process was full of shite about the people he'd killed.

Also loved Richard Harris as English Bob. Not a real long part, but well played by him. His character went from a position of arrogance when first introduced to beat like a puppy when he left town.

That final barroom gunfight scene with Clint is cinematic history in the making.

I watch that movie a couple times a year, minimum.

My favorite is when Little Bill is lying on the floor of the saloon and Clint is standing over him with that Henry Rifle pointed at his head and Little Bill says:

"I don't deserve to die like this"

And Clint answers, "Deserves got nothing to do with it".

Jamiez Woolvett (the kid) was also very good.Thought he was headed for big things with the role but looks like he's been mostly a working actor since and hasn't done much at all lately.
