NM is in my personal hall of fame if only for one joke. He was doing the SNL Weekend Update in '95 or so and said this, in his matter-of-fact tone of voice and with an incredulous semi-smirk on his face:

"After the OJ Simpson acquittal verdict was announced, Washington DC mayor Marion Berry urged both white Americans and black Americans to join together... And help get him some crack."

Which kind of sucks now because his comedy these days is just incredibly awkward.

The Pope came out with a book this week, which contains a series of essays examining faith and morality in today’s secular world and the changing role of the Catholic Church as it approaches the 21st century. The book is entitled: “God Himself Told Me That O.J. Is Guilty”

Norm was the best ever, period.

Back then they just didn’t care, and hammered away at the low-hanging fruit over and over again, especially OJ and Michael Jackson.

It was brutal and funny. They’d never do this to anyone now, aside from Trump.

I’ve got five favorite Norm Update Jokes

quote:

Well in sworn disposition this week, OJ Simpson claimed that he never ever beat, choked, or hit his ex-wife with a closed or open fist. Luckily for OJ, lawyers forgot to ask if he had ever cut her head off.

quote:

Now more OJ Simpson news! Tonight the Juice officially endorsed Bill Clinton for President saying “I’d like to help him anyway I can” to which the President replied “Well there is one thing...”

quote:

Who are safer drivers? Men or women? Well, according to a new survey, 55 percent of adults feel that women are most responsible for minor fenderbenders, while 78 percent blame men for most fatal crashes. Please note that the percentages in these pie graphs do not add up to 100 percent because the math was done by a woman. ... [crowd groans and boos] For those of you hissing at that joke, it should be, uh, noted that that joke was written by a woman, so... Now, you don't know what the hell to do, do ya? ... No, I'm just kidding, we don't hire women.

quote:

While in the hospital, Michael Jackson had his room specially decorated with two huge photos of Shirley Temple. But we here at Update have the responsibility to make sure you don’t get the wrong idea, Michael Jackson is a homosexual pedophile.

quote:

The nation is still reeling Thursday’s bombshell announcement that Lisa Marie Presley has filed for divorce from Michael Jackson. According to friends the two were never a good match. She’s more the stay at home type while he’s more of a homosexual pedophile.

The first time I ever saw that clip, I beat norm to that joke. I felt very proud of myself.

Norm is somebody I've never liked, but I've found over the years that I have eased on him from where I used to stand. I don't mind him now...even some of his older stuff doesn't hit me negatively like it used to. And as I've gotten older, I appreciate him not giving many fricks about anything more and more.
