I had Skyskraper and San Andreas mixed up in. My head as one movie until I read that post.

I also did this with Journey 2 and Race to Witch Mountain.

There's always room for fun movies like these. Not everything has to be dark or establish some political point of view.

After Brendan Fraser's amazing run (The Mummy, Journey to the Center of the Earth) we really had a dearth of silly and fun action movies. I give a lot of credit to the Rock and his people for realizing there was this huge market out there and no one was catering to them.

There is no shortage of actresses who are game to try and do a family friendly action movie. He won't have to look hard to find appealing costars. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a great comedic relief actor looking for work. Disney and the other studios thinks the Rock craps money (and he's a fairly safe bet, he has his share of meh box office but usually he'll give you a nice return on investment).

Black Adam should be a chance to see how he does with a more serious movie. BA is hardly a light and pleasant comic book character so if they stay true to his comic book character Dwayne Johnson will get plenty of chances to show his acting chops.

Would a 4.5 year old be able to follow and enjoy this? Thought about watching it with him the other night

Maybe. Hmm. I will defer to people who currently have younger children. I don't want to steer you to something that might scare him.

I don’t know how well he followed it but my 3 year old liked it and never got scared.

I find it odd that Dwayne Johnson is like the biggest movie star on the planet, but I feel his filmography is full of films that you kind of have to be reminded exist. And what’s weird is some of these films aren’t even that old.

Like does anyone remember Skyscraper?

Hell I had to be reminded that San Andreas was a film that existed.

I feel like he's the new Schwarzenegger. But he's not going to have the all time memorable classics like Arnold. What's the Rock have to compare with Predator, Total Recall, and Terminator? Same with Stallone for that matter, who has two iconic roles in Rocky and Rambo.

He feels like a likeable generic actor for a bunch of likeable generic cgi flicks.

Skyscraper is the one where Johnson plays the one legged arse kicking machine.

San Andreas is the one with tits Magee.

The last couple of years everything seems serious or political

This. Hollywood interjects politics into just about everything these days, even children’s films and television programs. I don’t want to be lectured. I just want to be entertained.

As harmless/playful as the movie is for adults, that age (the "preoperational stage") still has an egocentric view and finds it difficult imagining themselves in another's place and/or how physical forms can change shape. I doubt seriously that the movie will scar him, but if you get a "Daddy, I don't like this" during the (spoiler) corpses coming back to life scene, he's probably scared as shite.

Side note: This movie was obviously filmed as a jump-off-the-screen 3D movie. So many shots linger with objects/creatures/reptiles coming closer & closer to the camera. I tried to enable my 3D function on my tv, but Disney+ said this function is not available.

I can live without the Rock tackling Shakespeare. He knows his limitations.

I bet he could do it. Maybe not Hamlet but something like Twelfth Night. Shakespeare was lowbrow mass entertainment in it's day. Lots of swordplay, corny jokes and sexual innuendo.

I really think The Rock diluted his brand too much

He's found his niche in kid/family movies.

He can't be taken seriously in action movies for grown-ups let alone any drama.

Jumanji movies
Journey
Tooth Fairy
Witch Mountain

That's his wheelhouse. His shtick is basically a forever rip-off of Kindergarten Cop...big muscle guy who's a goofball and plays to PG audiences.

I almost took my son to see it then watched the trailer with him and thought it might be too much for him. He's only 5, I didn't realize it was pg13 until we watched the trailer.

It was going to be his first movie theater experience.

Was I the only one secretly hoping that the pedal from the tree was going to be used to heal the brother’s foot and cure his gayness?

I enjoyed it. Wasn’t a fan of the gay brother at first, but he grew on me.

Was a solid flick for Disney.
