No, its cause WW1 doesnt have clear cut bad guys like WW2..and the technology (biplanes and blimps) isnt as cool as Spitfires, P-51 and Tiger Tanks etc

It's probably more that WWI wasn't really an American war.
Hollywood hates America though. The Patriot is the only big budget modern American Revolutionary War film I can think of and it came out 18 years ago. And that war last for years so there is plenty of subject matter to do a film on.

I’m honestly surprised there weren’t more WW1 movies over the past few years given it was the centenary of the war. The Great War would seem natural fodder for the type of stuff that today’s progressive filmmakers like - moral ambiguity since everyone was more or less at fault, senseless slaughter on a massive scale, the realization that the path Western civilization had taken in the decades leading up to the war (colonialism, industrialization, and capitalism) indirectly led to the war itself, the culpability of patriotism in sending men to the front, the expanded role of women in the workforce given the shortage of men, etc.

I like WWII movies but that's a big reason there are so many European theater movies compared to the Pacific theater. which was a much larger effort with more troops involved, more casualties and lasted longer. It is what it is. I don't really care. Just recognizing the reality.
Eh, the Nazis are just such a ready made enemy that needs no explanation or introduction. Plus the Pacific theatre was not nearly as glamorous or exciting as the European theatre. Also the Euro theatre was the major overall part of the war, even if not so for America

There's more about the European theater and the Nazis.
Saving Pvt Ryan was obviously produced by a Jew and had nothing to do "saving Jews"

I'm in BR and was wondering the same thing. I saw it came out on Christmas but it turns out its national release isnt until January 10 I believe.

Wasn’t it shot in a single take or something?
It was filmed and edited to seem like it was a single take.

Exactly what is.You stated there weren't many WWI movies because they weren't about "saving the Jews"
WTF else would call it other than anti semetic?

That enough? Why would even say such an idiotic thing?
You REALLY think this is the reason for more WWII movies?
Why do we have do we have more Vietnam movies as opposed to Korean war movies?

local guys who have seen the flick(they are voters for academy awards), said it was f'in brilliant
I’m not sure that’s a good endorsement. Academy voters generally have terrible opinions.

I'd say it doesn't have clear-cut good guys (except for us). But regardless, we were involved less than a year and still lost 100K.
But in Europe WWI was devastating in human loss; and it had no real purpose on either side.

There are other reasons of course. WWII was the greatest military conflict in human history being one. But let’s be honest, Hollywood loooooves to tell the story of the evil Nazis.

quote:Well, not just "a jewish character." He holds his star and gets in the faces of the German soldiers. It's definitely there to remind the viewer of that aspect of the war.
A Jewish character="saving Jews"
I think he meant that the European theater was about saving the Jews, which makes it more desirable by Hollywood, not that every movie was literally about saving them.
