I enjoyed Parasite but fairly surprised it beat out 1917.

I thought the latter was a better overall movie and certainly more traditionally suited to best pic. Parasite was clever and reminded me of Old Boy, another S. Korean film with odd subject and twist ending.

This certainly needed its own thread.

I just saw Parasite. If you are tired talking about it, click on another thread. Won't cost you anything.

I agree with this...

I'm ok with either winning but I would've liked to see them split Picture/Director, either one could win either one.

Mendes getting shutout for 1917 I didn't like.

1917 is a plagiarized mish mash of Dunkirk, Saving Private Ryan, and the Dunkirk tracking shot from Atonement.

Parasite is an original vision masterfully constructed and executed. It looks like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The Academy got it right. I was glad it won.

I post no value to this thread to compare the two, but parasite was awesome. Truely a masterpiece.

With that said, Im still mad that I didnt get to see 1917 in theaters. I just kept putting it off.

I agree.

1917 was magnificent. Epic cinematography, impossibly perfect choreography, and masterful art design (recreations of locations, buildings, costumes). I was transported. It was an experience.

I would have voted for 1917, but I have no issue with Parasite winning

Arent you the guy who was talking shite about the movie and saying you weren't gonna see it before it ever came out? Because you were still mad at Mendes for "ripping off" Nolan for Skyfall? I think its safe to say your opinion should be taken with a grain of salt, that is if you've even seen the movie

1917 wasn't anything special. No real standout moments or performances. Cinematography was good though.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I can appreciate that review.

Upvote deployed.

Except for the part about being different wars.

I don't think that's a part he thought was plagiarized. Style, not story.

*MILD SPOILERS*

Didn't you guys love how Mendes introduced every famous British actor with a dramatic turn or something similar (Mark Strong is just a leg, then walks deep into the background, and then he walks back into focus)? I think Colin Firth is the only one we meet already facing the camera.

*END MILD SPOILER*

Perfect review. This is what put it over the top for me. Felt like you were the third soldier.

Pretty sure Cumberbatch was too. If not he faced the camera pretty quickly

His back was turned. He was facing a map.

You’re right, but he turned around almost immediately.

I agree wholeheartedly. I enjoyed 1917,but it was rehashed. Parasite was very unique.

It was a good not great Korean movie.

So many other Korean movies over the years that I'd rate over Parasite.

But it's the Oscars, not every winner is a lottery pick.
