I know it’s been discussed in here a lot, but I’m rewatching it right now. That show could have be legendary. The story behind it getting cancelled is sad.

I heard that the reason it failed is because they aired it on Saturdays and it didn’t air every week. It was very sporadic

It still holds up really well too. I watched it with my stepdaughter a couple years ago (she was about 16 at the time), and she absolutely loved it.

In its time it was so underrated, that in present day it's become overrated. I seriously don't know a soul that has ever seen it that hasn't basically said "omg best 1 year show of all time! Can't believe it was canceled! A cult classic! Look at all the future stars in the cast holy shite!"
Anyone who has an opinion on the show lavishes praise on it, so in this day and age I wouldn't call it underrated at all

This scene alone is a great example of the subtle and nuanced excellence of this show.
Bill has just had a TERRIBLE day. His arch enemy, the PE coach is dating his mom.
And like SO many latchkey kids of the 80's he comes home to an empty house, an almost empty fridge, and deals with his depression and loneliness the way so many did. Some comfort food and the surrogate parent, the TV.
The TV tray and the rest of the set perfectly nails the 70's phasing in to 80's décor.
Martin Starr was by far the best, and most underappreciated actor on the show. On first watch most people focus in on Lindsay and the Freaks. But on second watch, Bill is the sleeper star of the show.
I can't think of another show that nails the reality of being a kid back then (I was born in 67 so I was there).
Dammit, now I need to go back and binge the whole thing again.

That’s the exact scene that caused me to post

I really liked The Geek Baseball scene (YouTube).
How many of us went from being the goofy kid that couldn't catch a cold when we started little league, to being the effin Ty Cobb of Pony League baseball?
How many did this after making one great play like this. Confidence, an athlete must have it. Nothing like competition of some sort to develop a kid into a young man.

CRIMINALLY underrated. What are you watching it on? Used to be on Netflix years back but I haven't seen it on any of the stream services I have recently.

I didnt watch it when it aired, but it seems like 15 + years ago that I did... I remember thinking that even thought it didnt keep going, the last episode had a nice finality to it and that was good enough for me...

I’ve always thought he was the greatest character ever on a comedy because off his wholesomeness.

Extremely underrated. I've never seen a show atp in time more relatable to the 70s
It was set in the early 80s.
What about That 70s Show? It nailed a lot of things that made the 70s the 70s.

Ehh hard to compare the 2 imo
One went on too long the othe3 canceled way after 1 season the other went on forever.
Still freaks is better to me lol with A ALOT LESS episodes

It's not about which show is better. It was which show was a better reflection of the 70s. Since one of them wasn't even set in the 70s and the other actually has that decade in it's title, I'll go with the latter.

Good point
