The last couple of years of the 70s and the first couple of years of the 80s were an amazing time to be alive.

Freaks and Geeks certainly captured that incredibly well.

It was that brief period when the 70s hadn't quite ended, culturally, anf the 80s hadn't quite found it's groove yet.

It didn't feel like the 80's in retrospect until about 1984.

Early 80's movies still had some 70's vibe.

I mean compare First Blood (1982) to Rambo First Blood Part II.

First Blood feels like a 70's movie; Rambo (1985) is so over-the-top 80's.

That's a great example. By the end of the 80s,I'd pretty much had my fill of over the top action movies.

First Blood definitely had a different tone/feel than the sequels that followed.

For me, it was when all of the New Wave bands started breaking out on Mtv when the 80s started feeling like the 80s.

In its time it was so underrated, that in present day it's become overrated.

It was similar to Firefly, where every hipster claimed to have watched the original prime time run (though F&G had zero fan base going into it and NBC didn't promote it well).

It was underrated until the DVD came out in the mid-2000's and people actually watched it. I think the cult status was between the time it aired on Fox Family and when the DVD set came out.
