He didn't ruin Fringe, but Lost is debatable

Kingbob, you gave me a long, detailed answer. But notice, I said give me movie answers, not from books.

There's nothing in the prequels or OT that lead to a First Order, or a Resistance. So it's on the sequels to establish that.

It took until Rise of Skywalker and some of Palpatine's exposition to explain it onscreen; that's 3 movies in.

The prequels and original trilogy both mention the hutts control the outer rim and that they’re not part of the Republic/Empire.

TFA mentions how The First Order was organizing in the outer rim. TFA also mentions how the Resistance isn’t officially sanctioned by the Republic but fights for it anyways out on the outer rim.

TLJ mentions how the arms dealers are double-dealing both sides.

Solo goes in detail about Spice smuggling and the slave trade under the empire.

The prequels mention slaving repeatedly as something not tolerated in the republic, especially in TPM.

People certainly complain about Star Wars more than any other franchise.

No franchise has been more feast or famine than star wars except maybe Terminator.

No franchise ever made a movie as insulting to its fans as TLJ

The prequels do mention that; the OT has an Imperial garrison on Tatooine, along with "the local bulk cruisers". Stormtroopers are directing traffic looking for the droids, and nobody seems interested or disturbed in that.

That tells me that Tatooine is a part of the Empire, like Grand Isle is part of the US. Might not get a lot of attention in the capitol, but it's under Imperial jurisdiction.

second movie, which means you go an entire movie without learning that. And all it states is that you have companies and dealers selling arms to combatants... of course you do. Fighters and such don't grow on trees.

Solo goes in detail about Spice smuggling and the slave trade under the empire.

So, 2 main movies, and now we're going into a side movie released after those.

So the point remains, none of this is addressed or explained at all, when you initially view TFA.

And I don't think "slavery" is an issue at all in the JJ trilogy, unless you're going for the stormtroopers.

That’s a pretty big caveat. I mean, one of the main characters in TFA is a slave soldier. Enslaving these less-developed outer-rim worlds is literally how the First Order builds its army. Kinda a big deal, isn’t it? Slavery is also a theme in the whole idiotic casino planet shenanigans in TLJ.

As for the imperial garrison on tatoinne, ANH mentions that was a recent thing. They were only there because they were chasing the droids. This is not an established imperial base. Tatooine is basically Casablanca.

I don't know if he carries the full blame for Star Wars. Between corporate direction and Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi, he certainly wasn't the only force working against them.

Abram's Trek was... fine in the first movie, hated the second. Third was okay, but it really got away from Trek. Plus I think it encouraged the path the shows are taking now. Trek needs its own "Mandalorian" - a gritty, episodic take on that universe.

I think it needs the Orville. Star Trek isn’t supposed to be gritty. It’s supposed to be an optimistic look at the future where logic, science, and reason help people solve complex social problems ripped from current events. I feel the issue with JJ’s trek is that he tried to make it too much like Star Wars. It was fun, but wasn’t what Trek should be all about. Trek isn’t based on samurai or mythology epics. Trek is Wagon Train in space. Each episode is about meeting a new people presenting an interesting problem or moral dilemma for the crew. Trek should always be lofty, principled, and optimistic.

Rian Johnson deserved his trilogy, and you losers gave it to JJ Abrams. Shameful.
