Every adult involved in that movie should have been arrested for child abuse. Including Shields' mother.

And how do you mean "in circulation?" You have to work to watch it.
I beg to differ. Before I cut the cord and gave up cable, I saw it was shown at least 3-4 times a day on one of the cable premium movie channels------and this was no more than a year ago.

Teenagers put into suggestive scenarios with older sexual partners. It was an early 80’s theme done over and over.

I remember the controversy, back in the day, but never actually sat down and watched. Maybe I saw a few scenes of it, but the movie itself looked kind of boring. Too artsy for a young kaiju.
I don’t know. I also have never seen Lolita, which I hear is as risqué, if not worse. Might be more than 1 version… not on my watch list.

That's the only reason I knew about it.. That kind of description at a young age sticks with you a long time
No I haven't seen it either and have no desire but it's definitely still in circulation.

Call Me by your Name was just a few years ago.

Thora Birch was 16 when she shot American Beauty. Her parents approved her nude scene. Not a big surprise as both her parent were pron actors, her mom the more well-known. They both appeared in Deep Throat.

Don't forget Kevin Spacey started in it as well.

I've seen "Lolita" just once and it was the original 1962 version with James Mason playing Humbert Humbert, the male protagonist, Sue Lyon playing Lolita and Shelly Winters playing her mom. Lyons was 14 at the time of the shooting.
I can't remember any parts of it being overtly sexual even though the relationship is implied between Humbert and the young girl Lolita. With the morality codes back then in cinema, I can't recall any nudity in the movie.
I have no idea how the remakes were shot since I believe they made 2 more versions of this film in the following years.

An awful lot of indignation while reviewing a film you have never seen? I saw some of it decades ago and found it too boring to watch. The parental guide is more titillating than the film, if you get off on the words "naked", "breast and nipple", "bare buttocks", and "implied sex". Shields had no breasts, and the same as little boy nipples, and you have never been a parent if you haven't seen a butt. Louis Malle was a French director, and nudity of even young actors was not such a big taboo in other countries as in Puritan USA. Nudity is not porn - my ex-wife posted a nude photo of her granddaughter on her Facebook page without it causing a stir.

American Pie (high school senior actively pursuing and fricking Stiffler's mom).
Hell, for that matter, how does "Don't Stand So Close To Me" still get airplay?

I think there has always been movies about high school kids chasing older women. Private Lessons was much worse if you have ever seen it. That kid looked 12 years old.
This is the only YouTube trailer I can post that doesnt have boobs in it. LOL.

Pretty Baby was directed and written by Louis Malle . . . the real life husband of Candice Bergen (renowned leftist and sister of Charlie McCarthy).

Can add Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls" to that list.

I've seen Pretty Baby once, when it first came out on cable. In college in the late 70's, we'd check out any movie on cable with a lot of nudity. Nothing memorable except for a lot of topless adult prostitutes. Main takeaway was Susan Sarandon's pre-Atlantic City rack.
I met the guy who "wrote" the pictorial book of the New Orleans Red Light District that the film was based on. He was pretty pissed to be associated with a shitty, notorious film.
Kubrick's Lolita is a classic. I think it's main detraction was that Kubrick was in love with Peter Sellers and gave him way too much comedic leeway. His character is too broad for the film. Zero nudity and implied statutory rape, but James Mason gives an amazing performance.
I haven't watched any modern version of Lolita. I'm guessing they amped up the sex, added nudity, etc.
