I actually liked how they made fun of Robin's boyfriend too (I can't even remember his name though )

Robin just fricked it up by being too much of a slut and Barney fricked it up by apparently becoming a completely different character than we have seen for 8 seasons

I think the people hating on this season are just way overstating the case. Is the show at its creative peak? No. But it's still a solid show taking a well-deserved victory lap.

Barney has changed, but I think its entirely consistent with his character and has been clearly mapped out throughout the show's run. He's always wanted love and security, underneath his bravado. He's a big kid who is finally growing up. He and Robin are perfect for one another because both are so terrified of relying on other people, but also are fundamentally lonely people.

Anyway, I thought this was everything I wanted in a HIMYM episode. It was funny, advanced the overall plot, and had some great sight gags (Splitsville, how quickly Lily and Marshall have sex) as well as great throwaway lines ("I bet he's a great ballhandler.")

I thought other episodes this season were funnier. But I agree people are hating just to hate at this point.

We get it, the show has declined.

Don't get me wrong, I thought last night's episode was pretty funny, but I feel like it was one if the first funny ones this season. I just haven't found this season as funny.

And while yes, the reasons you listed make sense for Barney and Robin to be together, there are still plenty more reasons for them not to be together, as we are often told by wildtigercat, the biggest being the kids issue.

I don't know, it still feels all forced to me and the only reason I'm still watching is because I feel like I have too. But if forcing these things to happen means wrapping up the show then I guess I'm all for it

ETA: I think one of the reasons I liked last nights more was that Marshall and Lily actually were part of the plot. I feel like they've pretty much been non-characters this season

I agree with that, but the Lily horny thing was just weird.

I agree that I'm not a huge fan of Barney and Robin ending up together, but I don't completely hate it. Sure, it may go against most of what we've seen, but Barney can't stay the Barnacle forever...people do grow up and change. So it's only natural that he grows out of that phase and actually falls in for real love. Sure, it's convenient and kinda sucky that it's Robin, but it does sort of make sense since they're such good friends and have already dated before.

I'm not the biggest fan of it, but it's not ruining the show for me or anything like that.

Also, I'm watching the first few episodes of the show since I haven't seen them and it's VERY CLEAR that Robin isn't the mother. So it's weird that they keep going back to the Robin/Ted thing so often nowadays.

Also, in the first two episodes of the series, Robin and Barney both play "Have you met Ted?" Just something to note how similar they are within the first couple of episodes.

I won't be able to watch tonight. I will read this thread tomorrow to determine whether I watch the ep at all. Although, I will probably still watch it even if everyone here says it's terrible.

exactly what happens to me every week

this is an average episode for this season. which doesn't say much, but it's honestly not too bad

Meh, another kick the can episode. A bunch of plot setup, no real information, but setup for future events.

If they keep this up, they're gonna have a lot of plot lines to wrap up at the end of this show.

True indication of this show's fall from grace.

Thread was buried on page 2 day after its airing.

Abysmal. Watching this only as one would a train wreck, to see how it ends.

I hope Marshall gets that turd sanctioned all over the legal community. Marshall is gonna destroy him.

I love Marshall's character, hate Ted's, and have semi grown tired of Barney's, although Brodium was a good one last night

Robin needs to be hotter imo, and Lily kind of is just there at this point

I actually like the episode up until the end, which seems to be a trend for this season. Why do they feel they HAVE to have someone, be it Barney or Ted or whoever, fall for/re fall for/kiss/rediscover feelings for/make a move on/etc Robin at the end of so many episodes?

We get it, people like robin. Just chill out on every frickin guy in the show loving her then moving on then falling for her again right at the end of an episode.

Or just marry Robin and Barney and be done with it.
