Watch this compilation of his career. Dude can flat out act. Not only that, he's diverse. He has nailed every character from a mentally challenged kid to a Boston cop.

Like someone in the comments said,

Feel like he’s always playing himself.

Also, I don’t think he deserved it for the Revenant.

Director; Ok Leo, in this next scene, I want you to get naked, roll around in the snow and look cold. Ok great. I can really buy in your cold. That blue look of frostbite around your face? So authentic.

Director: ok Leo, in this next scene, I want you to eat this raw heart and look disgusted by it. Ok, great. That look on your face. You can really tell you don’t like eating raw bison heart.

Those awards are more about Hollywood campaigning than acting ability or quality of a film

He should've won it for The Departed and Blood Diamond. I think they gave him one for the Revenant as kind of a consolation prize.

Yup. Whitaker with one of the more undeserving wins ever.

Should have won for What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He had me convinced it was an actual special needs kid playing the part.

1) I think he was great in the Revenant.
2) I think he's great in most of his works, but I agree that he got the Oscar for the Revenant only because he hadn't received one before.
3) As good as Leo was in the Revenant, I think Tom Hardy was even better and stole the show in that movie.

Completely disagree

The Departed vs Blood Diamond vs wolf of Wall Street

Extremely different characters that looked completely natural to him

Probably should've won for the Aviator but Jamie Foxx absolutely killed it as Ray Charles.

Forrest Whitaker killed it as Idi Amin, so I understand that loss.

The Academy like a physical transformation so I get him losing to Matt in Dallas Buyers Club.

He was excellent in Gilbert Grape but I'm not sure how Tommy Lee Jones even won for The Fugitive when Ralph Fiennes was excellent as Goeth in Schindler's List

He's been overshadowed, or at least equalled, by costars in several movies. DDL in Gangs of NY, Tom Hardy in The Revenant, and now Brad Pitt in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood were all better than Leo. He was great in Django but so were Jackson and Waltz. Nicholson had the flashier role in The Departed and even Marky Mark was good enough to get a nomination.

I was dumbfounded he won over Leo or Ralph that year. Another frick up by the Academy.

Wild takes, but they don’t mean Leo wasn’t awesome in those movies. Wolf is hands down his best performance tho. He starts at a 10 in that movie, immediately goes to 11, and then maintains about a 17 for the rest of it.

The Departed and The Aviator were great performances, for sure.

But, he's a movie star in a lot of other instances.

Let's take Cruise for example, he should have won it for Collateral (and wasn't even nominated - Foxx was, and was excellent, but overshadowed by Cruise's clearly best performance to date, with only Magnolia in the running, IMHO).

Sometimes, being a $20m per picture guy can drag you down at Oscar time.

It's tough to win one Oscar in an acting category, much less two. There are a lot of factors -- sometimes the Academy wants to spread awards around among multiple movies, sometimes they want to give an award to someone as a lifetime achievement award. You've got to be so great in multiple movies that they HAVE to give you the award and hope that someone else didn't have a knockout performance or got rooked six years ago.
