I actually just watched it for the first time and wow... what a piece of art. Such a phenomenal movie. It's elicits every type of emotion that one can experience, and takes them overboard at times. I've never felt as tense in a movie at times, and almost felt triumphant at the end. The ending is one of the greatest final scenes in cinema history. I have to say this may be one of my favorite movies of all time.

This movie caused the angriest reaction I've ever had to a movie. I played tenor sax and had a psycho for a junior high band director, and then ended up quitting sophomore year because the HS director was a psycho as well. People don't realize how common these personality types are in their kids' music programs. I mean both of those guys screamed at us significantly worse than any of my football coaches ever did.

J.K. Simmons nails the character to a frightening degree. I literally wanted to step into the movie and kill him.

p.s. - csb the high school director ended up getting canned for "inappropriate texting" with a female student

Definitely a modern masterpiece. It looks like Chazelle could be the next great director. I cannot wait to see La La Land.

I finally watched it this past weekend. I don't know why I waited so long, but it really is a great movie. I wish I knew more about music, so I could appreciate some of the scenes more. I'm pretty motivated to see LaLaLand now..

One of the reasons why this movie struck a chord with me. Simmons portrayal of the uptight frustrated music director was spot on. I've had band directors throw things at me, slam me against a wall and threaten me. Granted I was a little shite. But Simmons' character was spot on.

I has a Prof at music school who ran the jazz program, who was just a intimidating, but not quite as over-the-top.

I respected him above most others because of the lack of BS and he got results. Reminded me of a old-school "woody hayes" type. Plus, his A band was much like the one from the movie, the best.
I respected the treatment because I got worse from my old man. Verbal - not as much physical.

Yeah, women dislike this movie.

Guys love it.

This movie tells a lot about our differences.

Yeah a few women liked Fight Club too, but by and large...it's either disdain or yawn too for Whiplish.

So, others have chimed in. It feels like a Fight Club divide. (but some women liked Fight Club because Brad Pitt, so there are always exceptions.)

Thought it was great up until the ending that never would have happened IRL but fit the movie I guess.

My wife loves this movie as much as I do.

The Fight Club comparison is bizarre.

there is not one wasted piece of film in the whole thing.

the entire thing, every scene, is essential and necessary.

great, great film.

From start to finish. Even when the ending cuts, you are satisfied and it feels like a complete film where many writers would have taken it to a more descriptive "solution". It was perfect.
