I believe that his last ex wife bankrupted him and he had to say yes to everything to pay off alimony.
On the flip side, Bruce Willis knew he was sick and took every role possible to financially secure his family.

My sister accidentally drove onto a movie set. A bunch of the crew jumped out and waved her to a stop. She hears a tap on her window and it's Nicholas Cage. She rolls down her window and he says, " Are you lost, Little Lady?"

I’ve been trying to make it through the last Bruce Willis movies and frick they are terrible.
I also watch all the Nic Cage movies. He did one called Gunslinger recently that was absolutely terrible I give it 5 stars on the crazy Nic Cage overacting scale

He had aphasia and worsening dementia. He apparently couldn't even read the scripts, it was jumbled to him, and he couldn't speak well, and some reports he had some sort of face blindness and couldn't recognize people he was acting with.
Crazy he even got through the movies. Just relied on muscle memory to "be Bruce Willis" in every role but it was terrible.

He was pretty much just trying to secure as much money for his family while he could before his illness took his ability to be in front of the camera. I think Motherless Brooklyn (2019) was probably the last time he ever was really all there for a role.

Cage's has veered back towards quality projects (and still some shite)
