I’ve made a lot of excuses and given this season a ton of slack. Absolute trash arse finale and they’ve taken quite a few liberties from the source material. Not a fan of the late part of this season at all.

Good moments but too much drag.
You can tell it's female writers and producers. They are rather proud of themselves in the post show discussions.

Good episode until Alicent showed up on Dragonstone. I audibly groaned when that happened. Nobody wants to watch that shite. Also, I’m not going to feel bad for Alicent when she made poor choices and is now facing the consequences. Her guilt is just played out at this point.
Daemon’s vision with Bloodraven and stuff was cool, but it really rings hollow unless HBO is planning to reshoot the last season of GoT. If not, they should be distancing the other shows from that shite, not highlighting it.
Tyland Lannister was the best part of the episode for me. I chuckled at his scenes.
Overall, it would have been a great episode 8 if we had a 10 episode season. As a season finale, it sucked. Not exactly giving me much confidence going forward and I’m sure they will stray further from the book and continue holding up Rhaenyra as the girlboss who can do no wrong.
Side note: What the hell was going on with Otto? Rhys Ifans (one of the bright spots in the show) was billed fourth and we get a disheveled Otto in a cage for 2 seconds. Did I miss something here?

quote:I thought GoT season 2 was miles better than HotD season 2 but maybe the Blackwater episode is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.
Season 2 of HOTD reminds me of Season 2 of GOT in a lot of ways. They should have made it 10 eps, but still had elite episode, a few good ones, and a few blah.

Otto was sorely missed during the last few episodes. That plus Daemon being stuck in Harenhall took two of the best characters out of the balance of the show this season.

You’d release a season like this if you had another one coming in a few months but with a 2 year gap this was a colossal waste.

For real, why was the black chick running all over the fields? I mean sure, she ran upon that dragon, but wasn't she in the Vale with the kids and dragon eggs? I clearly missed something.

Reminding me a lot of Season 3 Westworld. They kept all the strong male characters such as Jeffrey Wright and MIB out until the end of the season. Instead of two queens yapping, we had the female terminator fights every two or three episodes. Plot lines that made no sense and sloppy writing.

Jesus. She feels useless as a babysitter and goes looking for the wild dragon to claim it for herself. It could not be any more obvious if you’re actually watching the show.

quote:That's basically my review of the whole season. It was still decent, but it could have been so much better. They can still bring it home well, but with this writing team, I don't think they can or even want to.

They left a lot of cliff hangers at the end of this. I'd like to think it means next season will be full of action, but I could also see them jumping from one thing to the next without too much development and screw us around that way.

Man the character development and the cinematography in this episode were awesome!
The kings Landing scenes make me want 2 more episodes before s3

I mean they couldn't give us atleast one tiny payoff?
We see Otto Hightower finally, seems he's a prisoner of someone, but we don't find out who?
And we finally see Rhaena finding Sheepstealer, but that's it? She can't even claim her before the end?
They gave us nothing but cliff hangers to literally every storyline.

When it ended it caught me off guard because the timer was still saying the episode had 15 mins left

I didn't hate the season, but nothing ever happens.
