To build on this, we get a lot of details about it from the books and GoT, but not a lot of background on it.

The Prince that was Promised is the same thing as Azor Ahai but from different regions of the world. They pretty much are prophecies that claim a hero will come and defeat the white walkers when they show up again.

Aegon I conquers Westeros which at the time was multiple different kingdoms because he has a dream about “a terrible winter” from the north or as we know from the OG series “The Long Night.” In his dream, the only way the white walkers are defeated is if he unites the kingdoms and a Targaryen with a dragon is leading them. So his whole purpose of conquering Westeros was to unite the kingdoms and set up a kingdom by which the Targaryens and their dragons rule. This story is passed down from king to heir and the story is engraved into the dagger worn by the king, which was also the same dagger used to kill Bran in S1 and the Night King by Arya.

So when Viserys tells his daughter this after he names her heir, she pursues her life feeling some sort of destiny toward this prophecy. In the last episode, she asks if he truly believes in this prophecy because the fight for her to actually become queen wouldn’t be worth it if he doesn’t truly believe this prophecy.

Well, before he dies, he tells who he thinks is his daughter but actually Alicent, how strongly he believes this prophecy, and Alicent misinterprets him talking about Aegon I as talking about her son, which then gives her the conviction to make sure he sits the throne not Rhaynera.

Yeah clearly shows how much influence Alicent had over the King at that point

Also shows how had Viserys had essentially threw in the towel trying to fight what he believed was right when it was getting him nowhere and he had also likely given up in his fight with ailment. He was fine with drifting off and letting Alicent rule in his stead until Rhaenyra and Daemon showed up and Rhaenyra pleaded that he intervene.

Viserys: I'm ready to die.

Death: Man, I been ready.

I could honestly see them just using the House of the Dragon banner as a means of drawing in viewers to the Blackfyre Rebellion and to Aegon's Conquest. Once the Dance of Dragons is over they could do something like

House of the Dragon: Blackfyre and do the Blackfyre Rebellion then just do House of the Dragon: Conquest and chronicle that time

Either GRRM or one of the show runners said they purposely named the show House of the Dragon and not Dance of the Dragons for that very reason.

I bet they would have just called this GOT: Dance of Dragons if the last season didn't put such a stigma on the GOT franchise.

I might be confusing the names (pretty normal) but when was Bran killed in season 1? I thought he was just shoved out a window and became handicapped.

People that have seen the episode are saying it’s too notch. Been a great season the only thing that could make it better is a cool dragon battle in the finale. Fingers crossed

I'm so excited to be getting into the meat and potatoes of the dance. Everything before now was just setup and preamble.

I think I know where the season is going to end, and if done well it will be awesome.

We need a book spoiler thread.

I have to say they’ve done a pretty good job retconning the importance of a throwaway prop

correct me if I’m wrong:
1) made from valerian steel date unknown, engraved with a prophecy
2) eventually owned by aegon the conqueror
3) passed down from king to heir representative of the prophecy
4) assumed to be in the possession of aerys when jaime killed him, and then presumably taken by Robert Baratheon
5) lost by Robert to littlefinger (in a card game?)
6) used by littlefinger to attempt the murder of bran
7) then in possession of the starks, catelyn gives it back to littlefinger, who then gives it to bran
8) bran gives it to Arya who uses it to kill the nights king

pretty cool assuming it was just a knife in episode 2 of GOT
