Rhaenyra would have abdicted her position and fled to the free cities with Criston Cole if it was not for her belief in the duty she had to produce the prophecied Prince that was Promised.
She not only understood her position but drank the tea to avoid having the child of Cole after everyone assumed she and her uncle got it on but did not.
Cole is a worm and look forward to him hopefully having a grueling death. Not even sure how he is still in the position he is in.

Alicent is self-righteous, manipulative, and judgemental over Rhaenarya ousting her father as hand. Rhaenarya was justified in this as she knew Otto Hightower was manipulating his way to the throne through Alicent.
Her father told her to become the whore for the king because of his hunger to rule the seven kingdoms. Otto pimped his daughter out for the crown.
quote:
Rhaenarya couldn't have children via Laenor anyways. What was she supposed to do? Act like she was unable to bear children?
Exactly and she admitted she had tried with Laenor.
Rhaenyra has done everything she has been asked to do by her father and what is expected for her position. Her new marriage is now about F everybody and it is time go to war. Lets roll!

speaking of Otto how old is that dude supposed to be? He was the hand to the previous king for some time and was the hand to viserys his entire reign except for the last 10 years
So he’s much older than viserys by several decades right?

production has been top tier as well.
I can't agree with this. It might have been, but the direction of the barely there lighting has obscured what might have been.
The word Obscure fits this as well as any word ever could.

Origin
late Middle English: from Old French obscur, from Latin obscurus ‘dark’, from an Indo-European root meaning ‘cover’.
The crowd scenes look as if a dark filter was used after the scenes were photographed.
Generally when we can't see details it's because the money wasn't there and dark and hazy hides the lack of details.
It's not just some of us. The Daily Mail has been putting up summaries with single screen captures. Two weeks ago there were several captures that could have been pictures of nothing, and maybe they were.

43, the King is 42.
Otto was first appointed as Hand of the King at age 24 or something like that.
ETA: for more context Daemon is 39 and Rhaenyra is 23.

I'm hoping this is a one off due to the fact this was literally the first thing they filmed for the show apparently.
Since it also appears to be the only time so far where they filmed a big scene like this at day and then used color grading to make it appear night. While almost all the other night scenes I think have been proper night filmed.
Heck, I remember int he teaser trailer way back when the scene on the beach had this weird blue hue, which also looked terrible, but the final color grade did go too dark IMO.

Yeah, even when reading the book, when I’d come across ages it was always a wtf moment because everyone is much younger than expected. But you have to remember that GRRM was essentially trying to set this in the Middle Ages where the average lifespan was like 35 or something.
The show runners don’t appear to be tied 100% to the book ages, but it’s really not super relevant for characters like Viserys or Otto anyway. Nothing about the story changes if they are in their 40’s or 60’s.
ETA: I think GRRM also made characters younger so he wouldn’t have to make up more stories about what was going on for these characters for the extra 20 years that would be added to their ages

GRRM kinda fricks with the ages sometimes…for example, when Rob Stark and Jon Snow are kicking arse in GoT they’re like 15 and 14
But I think in Viserys’ case his body deteriorating is a metaphor for the Iron Throne eating him alive. They talk about that in the books as well

Hence Aegon has/had the right idea, frick the crown. drink, fornicate, frick around with dragons, and jerk off out of windows cause you have all the power and money you already need as a Great House. What idiot wants those Throne problems?

From the book he would be 44 currently
Otto has been pimping his daughter out for the crown for a while.
quote:
Ser Otto first served as Hand of the King after the death of Prince Baelon Targaryen, the Hand and son of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Jaehaerys was devastated by the deaths of Baelon and his beloved wife, Queen Alysanne Targaryen, becoming grief-stricken, and with his health failing he became bedridden. Otto effectively ruled the Seven Kingdoms as Hand in the final two years of Jaehaerys's reign, while his daughter, Alicent Hightower, nursed the ailing king.[1]
She was 13 during this time. My guess is if Jaehaerys did not die she would have married him

Rhaenyra lied by omission on the memory of her mother right to her best friend's face. she is a s*** head
Also, any woman who sleeps with and has multiple children with a man that's not her husband would be called a whore...except here on the movie/tv board where apparently people think cucking ain't a bad thing.
what you said about Alicent, really applied to Otto....how the frick has Alicent been manipulative/self righteous in any way? for sparing Cole who would've been executed if not for her? you're talking out of your arse

Sure, if you are a bitter Puritanical douche that hates agency in woman so much so they actively avoid grasping or respecting the mutually agreed upon decisions two consenting adults agreed into in order to justify hating them over the woman that's only argument in favor of on a moral plane is she bent the knee more obediently to the patriarchal structure of her era, despite being more toxic, unhinged, and vile in every other possible way comparatively....Which really isnt a good argument to begin with

Rhaenyra: That should be our house words

Yeah, both Rhaenyra actresses have really good deadpan deliveries, that unfortunately only come out like every other episode. I wish the writers played into that side of the character a bit more(and for others).
Think it would balance the scales of the seriousness the way GoT did.

Her best friend who slept with/married her father to become Queen?

Her husband was gay and she married him for the kingdom and her position. She had no feelings for him or vice versa where both agreed upon prior to their wedding they each could do their thing with another. Sorry it is not like she is just sleeping around with everyone while married. Her husband was OK with it and she was with one guy who fathered all her children.

Well yes in her early year Alicent was dumb enough to be manipulated by her father but now she is the one that is manipulating to hold on to her position. Wearing green shows her desire for power. Going against her husband at every chance she gets. But to each his own.
