I can't be the only one still thrown off by the new cast members. It's the fact Rhaenyra looks 20 years older but Daemon and Ser Criston stayed the same

So we're just completely ignoring the context that her death would likely be imminent once her father died if she didn't produce an heir? And that she didn't have a choice since her father married her to a gay man who likely couldn't get it up long enough to produce an heir?

Alicent purposefully poured the poison in her kid's ears about their cousin's parentage and has actively groomed her oldest son to be an usurper despite her husband's wishes that Rhaenyra still be the heir to the crown and her children her heirs behind her. She has actively been doing that behind the King's back who has been NOTHING but good to her despite her shite.
She also capitalized on Sir Criston losing his shite by bringing him into the fold against Rhaenyra and using his anger towards her for shunning him as a weapon in her court.
And lets not forget that she actually struck and wounded the heir (Rhaenyra) and if Viserys had a sack he'd have her head for it. It'd be outright treason if anyone else did what she did.
ETA: And she's had no problem keeping Larys around still despite what he did his own father and brother. If she was truly "good" she'd have been repulsed enough to send him on his way.

I believe I read 6-7 years, which tracks with where we're headed at this point.
For what it's worth, even with the jumps there's enough content going forward that you can fill multiple seasons as this becomes a multi-generational affair.

But you missed the biggest one, Rhaenyra actually extended the perfect olive branch that solved almost every grievance and problem that had been bubbling, would have strengthened both houses to the point of creating an ironcald alliance between the most powerful Old Town/Targaryen/Valeryon families, and offered an amicable solution to the issues of succession where both families, through a marriage pact, would inherit dual authority of the crown....And Allicent not only turned it down, but directly went against the king in order to do it, then set into motion escalatory acts that killed Rhaenyra's baby-daddy and the Hand.
Alicent's rage, jealousy, paranoia, and self-righteousness is the catalyst for basically everything at this point. And every chance she is given on off ramp in a situation she decides to hit the gas instead.

She should have done a better job with the kids. They are spoiled brats who need a good thrashing. Unfortunately, their father was too much of a wimp to do it as was she.
I don't blame her for taking the stand she is on the succession thing. She's no dummy . The chances for her kids being murdered once the King dies are significantly higher. The princess is making a mockery of it all by having bastard kids that are outside the bloodlines. Keep in mind the official father comes from the second most powerful family in the kingdom and dragon riders of their own. She is literally playing with fire.
The Queen's father is a manipulator and gets no sympathy from me. It's not like he does anything to rein in those brats.
By the way, why the heck didn't the King question each child separately and alone to find out what happened? That would have been the smart thing to do.

Yeah cause she has acted like a fricking moron clouded by rage, jealousy, and self-righteous indignation. She has actively created a self-fulfilling prophecy from her paranoia and jealousy.
She literally had a solution to every one of her stated grievances and fears and she not only pushed the offer away, she further escalated. Then did it AGAIN at the funeral. Making it absolutely clear she doesnt care about her children's safety, only insomuch that it advances her desire for satiating her grievances by making Rhaenyra suffer AND taking full power.

It's pretty well known that GRRM pulls from actual history, more specifically British history. Edward II is known to have been gay and to the point that his relationship with his paramour estranged him from his wife, Isabella of France, and to the point that she deposed him (with her own possible lover at her side).
King James I was also widely known to be gay but was also married.
It's not some newfangled, "leftist" thing for nobility to be gay but in a marriage due for politics.

speaking of lack of morals, Rhaenyra just this last episode, conspired with Daemon to kill an innocent guardsman (burned him to a crisp to disguise him as Laenor) just so she could marry her own uncle. while in the same process, further ruining the lives of corlys/rhaenys her own mother/father in law.
