I really enjoyed this first episode. The c-section was tough to watch.
The one thing missing for me is the type of levity that Tyrion brought, but I don’t suppose characters like that grow on trees.

FYI, unless it's already been mentioned, on HBOMax the show is in 4k Dolby Vision/Atmos. In case some of you are watching on cable, you might want to watch on HBOMax instead.

There’s a character like that in the books, but he’s also a dwarf. I figure the writers of the show might have wanted to avoid the comparisons.

I don’t know that you get 5 seasons out of it where the story has started and an apparent time jump to an adult Rhanerys. Chances are it’s closer to 3 unless they decide to go beyond the Fire and Blood text.

Agreed. Aegon’s dream and the secret passing to the heir was a nice throwback. Especially while clutching the dagger.
Hightower sure does give Littlefinger vibes.
Rickon Stark is a little feller.

ETA: and I'm pretty sure they don't hack each other up at the tournaments.
I think this is foreshadowing about how there has been an underlying aggression being kept barely in check due to long peace. For instance, the convo about a lady being wed to a squire as soon as he gets his knighthood and the reply he better get on with it (as she is already pregnant). To me this implied, it was a bit harder to come by knighthoods as there was too much peace present...except apparently King's Landing.
I also think the cast has a tough time as the previous cast had the benefit of a clean slate without expectations. And yes, hopefully, there will be some non-earnest characters as that is almost always what makes a good show.

I’ve been unable to watch any of it due to my HBOMax app non stop crashing.

I’m an old book reader, and I my take on it is that this first episode is good. I had my doubts that a Targaryen prequel would be interesting enough, but I’m in.
I don’t really care about superficial flaws like CGI quality on dragons or their flames. The only thing I care about are characters, conflict, and plot potential. I think most of the characters are interesting and watchable. The main conflict of the show seems to be set already, and we should see many side characters and plots emerge out of it. That’s Martin’s style.
I’m just glad to have football season and GoT back. I’m not overthinking either one.

First naked chick in the series literally had no arse.
She's pretty hot though, she could use some more tits and arse though. Maybe offer a cheesburger?

I went in with metered expectations, but I have to say I was captivated by the screen throughout the air time.
The costumes, set designs, acting and the effects were all high quality to me. And the story pulled me right into the GOT world again…which is a joy.
Those jousting scenes were fricking intense!
I was worried this series would be sort of watered down compared with GOT, but we got an orgy, penis dismemberment, a medieval c-section & multiple face-bashings in episode one.
I’m all in.

And it makes sense. At this point, they hadn’t really seen war or violent upheaval for probably close to 100 years (about two Kings back from the current, Maegor the Cruel).

We’re we supposed to judge Viserys for his C-section choice?
I feel like the vibe was we were supposed to judge him for choosing to kill his wife but didn’t the guy basically tell him we can do this and maybe save the baby or they’re both going to die?
When a doctor says “leave it to the gods” that’s not a good thing.

Yeah, breeched baby would have killed her anyway.
ETA: I didn’t judge him. I felt awful for him.

This episode was a good start. The CGI looked good to me and I didn't find any scenes too dark to watch. We were watching on a 4k TV streaming on HBOmax on a gigabyte connection so it was probably the best way to view it at a home.
I thought the peen getting cut off was a rough, then they showed the C section. WTF. That was tough to watch, ANYONE getting surgery without anesthesia is rough but this women had NO CLUE what was happening. She really sold the fear in that scene.
I thought it was pretty clear the son died, the girl even said her brother died and only lived a few hours.
Game of Thrones cast was amazing, I hope these actors grow to be just as amazing, but even if the cast doesn't flesh out like GOT so far it has been good.

* Production value was great. HBO didn't go cheap. Sets, costumes, etc were legit.
* Love the tournament. Very well done and came off as realistic.
*. Cast is a little weak. No real strong or known actors. Seems like a bunch of supporting actors made up the cast. If this show has a weakness, during the season, it will be here.
* I like how they are taking some time to set us up in this universe, hint, hint, Nolan & Joy.
*. Nice tempo, didn't drag in many spots.
* Lighting. I HATE the damn lighting. Just like that Battle of Winterfell crap. Cut out the darkness.

He still made the choice to bleed his wife to death for what wasn’t a sure thing based on her history of losing children. So yes, there telling you something about his desires and current mindset with that

I'm in. I was pretty excited the entire episode. Pretty blown away by some of the set design. The world looked absolutely stunning. Really liked the throw backs to alot of locations. Matt Smith looks silly but honestly I think it's just him as a person.
