I didn’t see any recent threads on this. I watched it over the last few days, it’s got great scenery but the plot is all over the place with all the storylines.

They tied it all together somewhat at the end, it was still kind of a mess, the visuals, acting, and tension were all top notch, there’s just too much going on to create a singular plot like movie.

I wonder, was this supposed to be a TV Show?

Especially the last 45 mins or so, the story moved a long so fast with so much that had to have happened off screen it made for a very disjointed narrative. Then the montage at the end, was that supposed to be a sort of preview for part 2 or was that a montage of things that happened in between part 1 and part 2?

Part two will likely be streaming only
The rest may not even happen

I have to believe they have been re-cutting all the pt 3/4 footage with pt2 to try to make a coherent ending and wrap the project up instead of releasing pt 2 as it was and the trying to make 3/4 standalone finale.

I think most of 3 had been already shot.

They may could even make 2 into a 4-6 ep series, then do the same with 3/4 if Max gives them any funding to finish it, but I doubt that happens. The first one felt like a TV miniseries anyway that was stitched together to make a movie. It was just a complete mess.

I wasn’t confused at all

It’s listed as a saga so the end montage was clearly homage to old times westerns and shows and that was all stuff that would happen as the films’ score soars and the credits roll

Movies have to be able to stand alone by itself, even series

All the Star Wars, lord of the rings, etc stand on their own even though they are clearly series

American Saga part 1 is absolute shite mess by itself. It wasn’t a movie and shouldn’t have been released as one

I’m sorry it’s not an opinion. Part 1 on its own is a disaster. Let’s assume no other parts get made. Can the movie stand by itself? Anyone that says yes is completely lying

If you went and showed the “movie” to someone without them knowing about it being part of a saga, they would ask if the director was on mushrooms

I loved kind of being in the world of the old west for 3 hours, but I think some people are being nice just because it's Kevin Costner and it's a western and everybody wants to like it. That "movie" is a complete shitshow

Let’s assume that no other parts of American saga get made

There won’t be a single human being on the planet choose to watch it a second time or suggest others go see it

It’s an absolute candidate for worse movie ever if you stand it alone

This was a disaster of a decision to make this a movie and not a lonesome dove type tv release

That’s my thought, this should have been a miniseries and it could’ve been incredible. If they had 8-10 1hr episodes to tell the whole story it could’ve been wonderful.

Clearly there was a ton of backstory to tell that they straight skipped or cut and still couldn’t fit the first part properly into 3 1/2 hrs

I realize I’m in the minority, but I would gladly watch the entire 12 hour saga and enjoy it.

Don’t care that first three hours don’t stand up alone.

That said, it’s no way to make a movie in modern times with modern attention spans. Or to make money.

Agree on this. It could have been a well done mini series.

I don’t think you’re in the minority. I think the problem is they made the first part assuming the masses would all be patient for part 2 without making part 1 a good enough stand alone film.

If it was a 12 part mini series no one would complain that the first 3-4 hours was all scene setting and character building. When you package it as a movie, people expect some sort of stand alone story.
