I know. Talked to a few adult people who didn't remember it this summer.

Hell, my daughter isn't going to remember the pandemic.

Early 80's is not millennial, Gen X or Lost generation.

By any meaningful definition of millennial, 1981-1984 certainly are Millennial.

And no “I’ve been making fun of Millennials all this time and now I’ve finally bothered to check what Millennials are and now I know that I am one and I realize I’ve been self-owning myself all this time, so please make me Gen X, please!” doesn’t count as reasonable.

ETA: The "Millennials" that people bitch about today are actually Gen Z.

This. It’s like people think we’re still in 2003.

The people who bitch about “muh Millennials” when referring to high school kids and early twentysomethings don’t actually understand the generational division lines, and are usually bitching about Gen Z (which is basically the revolving door of “kids these days”).

Conversely, I saw a lot of “okay Boomer” (when that was a thing) directed at people in their 50s, who are actually Gen X.

Yes it is.

I’m old enough to remember when we were exclusively called Gen Y before Millennial started to be used more broadly (and pejoratively).

"Millennial" became a derogatory term for "people younger than me," just as "Boomer" became a derogatory term for "people older than me."

Supposed "Xers" in their need to feel superior like to blame both generations. Millennials suck because they were raised by boomers, etc. But this current crappy generation of late teens/early 20s that they still refer to as "Millennials" were raised by them and they need to own it.

it seems like only a few years ago that people were saying that Gen Z was nothing like Millennials. Couldn't tell you if it was accurate or not. But it sure seems like a lot of people were saying it.

Homer is ever changing and has no age. And Maggie is the oldest baby in the world.

Most of them were still in elementary school at the time, so I can't say that I knew very many or know many of them now. I had a coworker that's Gen Z and he seemed to have a really good head on his shoulders but he could be an outlier.

Is it my turn to explain why I'm not a millennial?

This thread is fascinating.

IDK, people say I am a millenial but then say if you used a card catalog, Reggie, dial up to schedule classes, etc. etc. then you aren't a millinial.

My reference to the lost generation... sorry they call it the NEW lost generation. People who don't belong in Gen X but who did not have the same experience as millenials. You can't come 20-30-40 years later and retcon early 80's kids into millenials.

Honestly, the gen Z crowd is much more tolerable than older Xer's and boomers. I much prefer my younger customers to my older customers.
