quote:

Due to the floating timeline, Homer's age has changed occasionally as the series developed; he was 34 in the early episodes,[7] 36 in season four,[10] 38 and 39 in season eight,[11] and 40 in the eighteenth season,[12] although even in those seasons his age is inconsistent.[

So what happened to the Homer who had my 70's high school hair and bopped around singing Steve Miller Band songs?

They already retconned Homer to be Generation X about 12 years ago.

It appears that Homer Simpson is more likely an immortal.

At some point they'll have him chop off everyone's head and shout "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!" while Queen plays in the background.

I would contend that The Simpsons should have ended when they had to retcon Homer as an Xer. (Probably should have ended even before that, but still.)

The dynamics at play in the "Golden Age" of The Simpsons were the family dynamics of Boomer parents raising Xer/older Millennial children and the ironic juxtaposition with established tropes of 60s TV (Greatest Generation Andy Taylor raising Boomer Opie.)

He's a Baby Boomer according to his driver's license.

Yeah, that chart is definitely not accurate. The "Millennials" that people bitch about today are basically teens through 30 years old. So I'd take that 1980 and push it to 1990 for millennials.

Homer's driver's license can be seen featuring his actual birthdate: May 12, 1956. Because the Simpson family never actually ages, Homer will forever be a 38-year-old, but if Homer had aged normally since his established birthdate, he would now be 65 years old.

He's rocking a 1976-1980 Queen poster and old enough to buy beer. And the height of bean bag popularity was the 1970s.

So X is a 25 year-long generation?

This is such a common thing for Millennials born in the 80s to want to do. It’s so common it’s worth studying what the underlying cause is.

Millennials are usually described as the first “internet age” kids. So if your high school had a computer with internet access when you were a kid but not “high-speed internet”, you’re probably a Millennial.

No. I'm saying to push the titles back, not elongate one of them.

Right, and I assume most people born in the 80s (especially early 80s) did not have internet-accessed computers in high school. So you are kinda making my point anyway.

Louisianans who primarily went to Catholic schools that may or may not have invested in internet infrastructure in the 90s may have a skewed view of what it means to have had internet in high school.

There are no teenage Millennials at this point. The Millennial generation is roughly early/mid 1980s to about 1997, 2000 at the absolute latest. Pew Research Center uses 1981-1996.

ETA: The "Millennials" that people bitch about today are actually Gen Z.

This is my personal definition, but it may also help to differentiate Millennials from Zoomers: If you started Kindergarten AFTER 2000 (the Millennium), you are a Zoomer. So, in essence, Millennials were the last generation to start school PRIOR to the start of the new Millennium. (Gives the term "Millennial" a definition that matches it.)

I was born in 83 and at no point was I ever "Gen X". Gen X types were those who were in college or early adulthood in the 90s, when I was in middle school or early high school. Like Reality Bites.

Late 70s to mid-80s are a transitional group now called x-ennials, last I heard, and I accept that. Basically those who got through high school when internet was sparse and normies rejected online social platforms (proto-social media). So we got to live both lives pre and post internet.

I don't know what I've ever seen '83 kids referred to as Gen X. You're definitely a millenial or x-ennial.

I had to use dial-up internet in the dorms at LSU and scheduled classes on REGGIE, you probably never had that experience.

ETA: There's also a big difference between early Gen X people born in the late 60s/early 70s and the late Gen X people born in the late 70s/1980-81. Late Gen X probably has more in common with the early millenials than they do with the early Gen X.
