Btw maybe this just went right over my head, but why did she turn down the other guy? It seemed like she was kinda interested, she had her little talk with Max, then after the wind from her question "can I move on" (or whatever it was) she says 'I'll take that as a yes' and seemed pretty happy.
Granted, I totally get that she's not over him and she just wasn't ready. But a)she must have had some interest in dude because if not she wouldn't have gone out to talk to max anyway and b)she got 'permission'. Did she change her mind from the time she walked from the porch to the living room?

The permission scene was a good idea and a good scene but they put it in a weird time. It made it kind of a pointless gesture
I guess it was her in typical Ted form, have a huge epiphany about what he wants in his love life and then doesnt change anything

I think it was all because she wasn't in love with Louis. Being with him was content in that she didn't have to fear loving him more than the dead guy. By saying no she was opening herself up to the idea.
I thought it was cool the polar opposite they've been since the start of the show. Ted's been miserable the better part of 9 years searching and being disappointed he can't find his soulmate. The girl decides on a whim she's ready to start looking again and bam there he is.

I fully understand that, it was just weird timing

Does anyone else's chest kinda hurt when wrapping their head around this type of thing happening IRL (I guess more so for those that aren't married)? That there could potentially be dozens of close calls with your soul mate and the one person for you yet neither of you know about it, all the times you have been in the same place at the same time and didn't have a clue, all the times your paths have almost crossed but just barely didn't, yet in time eventually the universe will get it right? Heavy stuff.
It's crazy to think about. Out of college I was applying for jobs and had one I really wanted. It took too long to materialize, someone else offered so I took it. I moved to alabama for it and met my wife the 2nd day here.

Spoilers:
Did it say how her old boyfriend died? Also, I didn't understand what happened after she found out. Why were there already a bunch of tissues there?

I may get a lot of disagreement here, but the fact that she had such a tough time getting over her ex, it will make the Ted Robin thing fit so much better. We have all bitched about Ted going back to the Robin well way too many times, but it will likely be the thing that brings them together.
I loved this episode. I don't really have any new reasons that people haven't mentioned already. I did really like how she listed three things in her room that she assumed Ted would hate, and they were all things Ted would love.

This was a terrific episode. But I agree that it felt like they crammed so much into one singular episode when this whole concept of the mother's perspective would have been easily interesting for at least 2-3 more episodes instead of some of the filler we've gotten this season.
I like the mother, but some of the exact quirks she shares with Ted seems kind of contrived.

no, they didn't, and I don't think it's important. likely some type of freak accident.
best episode of the season, and definitely top 5 all time for me.

1. You figs all acting like she's marriage material were saying she wasn't cute enough after last years finale.
2. When she said ren-a-sance I lost it.
3. Naked man has to work...its fool proof.

I loved everything about this episode from the Puzzles reference to the mother's emotional talk with Max. It made me super emo thinking about how lucky I am to have met & married The One in my own life already. Props to the writers on getting deep with that episode. Having this episode spotlight her definitely solidifies that she's perfect for Ted, all the way down to the little quirks.

Great episode. So glad bilson made an appearance and got a girl kiss.
Puzzles was amazingly awesome and ren-a-Saunce or however it's spelled was really good

Crazy how long this story is. But thinking about it, the series of events that led me to my wife is just as long and just as fun.
Great episode tonight

I thought it was a really good episode but they missed an opportunity to make it an hour long or make it a 3 episode arc. It seemed a little rushed and you never got enough of one thing.
I agree. It was fantastic but they could have told more of the mother's story

I really liked the references and the song and the end was truly beautiful, she is definitely wife material and way too good for ted They spent more time convincing the audience that the dead boyfriend was her soulmate than they did showing her and Ted connections...again I think it could've been some of their best episodes if they had given it more time to tell the story of her. I mean theres been like 6 episodes that were entirely filler and pointless so I don't think anyone would complain about making her the focus for a while
I guess they're trying to parallel it to Ted being hung up on Robin forever thinking he'll never find a more perfect girl. When they both meet each other though they'll realize they never found their soulmate to begin with.
I loved all the callbacks to old seasons though. It was fantastic for that.
