Don't forget the other undercover cop in the mob crew. The one who was killed in the shoot out at the building and bled out on the couch after tellih Leo he knew he wad undercover and then later it told on the news that his body was found and that he was a cop.

Just literally finished watching it again (2nd time, saw it a long while back) and all the explanations sound accurate.
Not sure how we know who's the father though or why that matters as both guys end up dead.
Movie was still great second time through.

The question I have is how did the other rat that shot Leo even know what was going on and where they were? How and who tipped him off? How was he even there to kill Leo?

the first time I watched the departed I was so high I thought LeoD and Matt damon were the same actor the whole movie. Needless to say it was pretty confusing. Second time I tried watching I was hammered drunk, so it was all I could do just to try to remember to keep the 2 leads separate.
At this point if someone ever asks if I've seen it I just say no even though I've "seen" it twice, bc essentially I really haven't ever seen it. One of these days I feel like I need to give it another shot sober.

Dignam was on leave when Leo called Anthony Anderson right? That's why he couldn't find him/get ahold of him.
And WTF does it matter if it was for Sheen or Leo? It was both of them.

Damon had his team follow Sheen because he was going to meet his informant (DiCaprio). Remember one of the cops saying something to the effect of, "What the frick are we following Capt. Queenan for?"
They end up on Washburn St and Sheen gets thrown off of the roof. Cops and Nicholson's guys in the van shoot it out in the street.
In the aftermath at the office, Marky Mark asks Damon why he had Sheen followed. Damon tells him to frick off, so Marky Mark kicks his arse. Baldwin suspends Marky Mark for two weeks. That's why Leo called Anthony Anderson (his State Police Academy classmate).
