HDTV is ruining my film watching experience

Well extreme HD at least. My HDTV broke yesterday, so I went and got a new one from Vizio. This is now so high def that it is ruining my film watching experience. Nothing looks real anymore and looks staged. I can tell where the lighting is coming from. Its very easy to tell models apart and I can see the makeup on the actors extremely easily. I can notice very easily where the camera is exactly on the screen and how they are positioning the scene around it. I actually feel like I'm on set, and I don't think that is a good thing. It keeps me from being immersed in the film. Channel flipping and all the films look so good that they look like shite, if that makes sense. Granted I can see how awesome this will likely be for sports, but as far as TV shows and movies are concerned, I find extreme HD highly overrated.

Do you have some form of "tru motion" or image smoothing? If so you should try turning that feature off

It's probably your refresh rate.
Give it a week or so and you'll get used to it. Our Sony was like that when we bought it, and I got used to it about a week in and haven't thought about it since.

my parents Samsung LCD was fricking horrible before we adjusted the factory settings. try to find calibrated settings online for whatever model you have and go from there.

this happened to me when i watched inglorious on blu ray
It looked pretty awful, kind of like a soap opera. Everything is put into focus and it definitely makes you feel as if you were on set.

You probably have too high of hertz like 120 or so. It looks absolutely AWFUL for anything filmed/staged. Films and shows wee not made to be viewed in such clarity. It's only good for sports and such.
Try turning off all the motion crap and even see if you can get that thing to the lower hertz refresh rate. I refuse to buy any TV with that high refresh rate cause it looks so damn terrible.

I used to say the same thing about ESPN... but that's just because I had never realized before how ugly Linda Cohn was. HDTV wasn't the best thing to come along for her career.

It's a setting or feature your TV has that's making it look like that. Mess around with it. You should be able to change it.

THATS A BINGO!
That is exactly what I think when I see the newest HDTV's. Every show looks like a freaking soap opera. I don't know what techniques soap operas use that make everything look "fake", but new HD does it to every show. It makes every show seem like a behind the scenes, and like Shark said, it feels like you are on the set or can feel the set (NOT IN A GOOD WAY).
