HBO Max will follow Peacock tiered pricing starting this spring...

Will offer a lower priced ad supported version, and possibly free version, just like Peacock does. New pricing structure not released yet. ATT (peacock) ceo says Netflix will probably be forced to do something similar within next 3 years. He also gave credence that Max very close to signing deal with either Roku or Amazon before Thanksgiving, and all signs point to Roku per industry insiders. This news is a month old but new to me, SIAP. Good news for streamers.

How much longer am I going to get to keep HBO max with my Suddenlink HBO subscription is my only question. Keep thinking that they're going to make them separate at some point.

Seriously doubt they will offer a free version

If OP is correct then we about to get fricked. We will probably still have access to HBOmax, but the version with the goddamn commercials.

Afraid of that. Another 6-7 bucks for the ad free version. It's always something. I haven't cut the cord because Suddenlink fricks you if you don't bundle and they're the only internet provider where I'm at.

This dispute has been so retarded from the consumers point of view.

Will be interesting to see if you pay for the ad free bundle from Hulu if that will also give you ad free HBO Max; or will Hulu just bump up their ad free cost.

It will probably be similar to what they had on Amazon. At least 3 years old was one of the rules and no GOT. That’s a good way to get people in to upgrade to a full subscription.

Looking forward to people buying the cheaper version and complaining about the commercials.

I have no interest in watching Game of Thrones ever again so that's not an issue for me.

This has been coming for years now, as I predicted. And not that I am smart because it is common sense that they would eventually all go their separate ways and have their own streaming services, which in turn comes with it their own ways of achieving advertising sales.
Cord cutting definitely saves money in the short term, but eventually everything will be a la carte and we will be spending as much, if not more, than we ever did on cable. One thing about businesses is that they will always find ways to make money.
I'm interested in the statement that Netflix will "have to" go to advertisements. I imagine they will lose subscribers if that were to happen.

This is a hot take, but a lot of Netflix shows aren't good enough to have to wait through commercials for.

well yeah I think Netflix saw a while ago other companies would eventually just want to start their own streaming service that's why they went original content crazy to build a massive library.
Apple is the one that needs to make a purchase in order to catch up, I don't see any justification in paying for that one.
Apple and Netflix actually would have been a good marriage

There is 0% chance Netflix goes the ad route. ever.
It's part of their fundamental philosophy that they wont do commercials. it's been brought up several times.
and exactly what will change in the next 3 years to make Netflix do this?
AT&T stock: $26 share
Netflix stock: over $500 share
There’s your answer

What did you expect from AT&T? They only know how to ream existing customers. Their service will wither on the vine just like their cable and home phone number, oh and DirectTV, let's not forget all of their greatest hits.
