It’s official: HBO Max has given an eight-episode, straight-to-series order to its long-in-the-works Jimmy Olsen Superman spinoff series, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. The half-hour comedy has been titled The People v. Gorilla Grodd, which also is a meme.
Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Jimmy Tatro as Gorilla Grodd headline the series, done in the true-crime docuseries/mockumentary genre. Season 1 will be centered around DC bad guy Gorilla Grodd, who has psychic powers and other skills after his encounter with an alien spaceship. The character was created in 1959 by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, and was most recently featured as part of DC’s Arrowverse.
They are joined by several Superman actors reprising their roles — Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White — as well as new cast additions Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz.

In The People v. Gorilla Grodd, a superintelligent ape is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. In an eight-part “true” crime docuseries, the Daily Planet’s Jimmy Olsen reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials.
“We are thrilled to be working with Tony and Dan, alongside James, Peter, the entire DC team and our colleagues at WBTV, to bring these iconic DCU characters to HBO Max in a new and unexpected way,” said Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Series. “We already know Skyler Gisondo is pitch-perfect as Jimmy Olsen and we can’t wait for fans to experience Jimmy Tatro’s captivating and hilarious portrayal of Grodd.”

When James Gunn’s time is up at DC, it’ll truly be a relief.

Why was Grodd tried in Metropolis the first place? The murder takes place in Gorilla City (Africa)
It’ll be a fun show, I think. I enjoy how each of these projects has a distinct tone.

So how are they going to explain no Lois or Clark at the Planet?

I know one thing to be true when it comes to DC and HBO Max, and that’s if the same people that do the animated series had something to do with the live action series, things might be better for them. Also, the series and movies are different are a different story when it comes to it.

Shouldn't be an issue. I'm guessing most of the show will be outside of the daily planet building. They'll likely say Clark and Lois are working on a different story.

Seriously doubt Warner Bros is greenlighting anything without Paramount's blessing. This is a good sign for Gunn.

I think it comes down to MOT. If that movie is big, I think Ellison let's them continue for another 2-3 years.

If it's big, why only 2-3 years? I think it's a forum fool's wish. He isn't going anywhere until he's ready.

What I mean is their contracts are up, so they would get renewed for another 3 years or so.

Not every day you see an 8 episode order given to a feature film.

Grodd was in The Flash primarily WTF is Jimmy Olsen doing as the lead in this, or Jimmy Olsen was in Superman/Supergirl WTF is Grodd doing in this.

They only need approval if it’s over $40 million
