First place I went just to see if they were freaking out and it doesn't appear so

These kids are kinda in a bad spot through no fault of their own as they'll always be seen as imposters.

It would be dumb to not do it book era accurate. Modern technology makes that world less fantastical.

Cast looks good, hopefully they can act

Honestly, anything is going to be better than the original cast. The older they got, the more stale and boring their performances became, especially Radcliff. I read the books multiple times and the only of the three that came remotely close to resembling the book character was Watson. Ron was pretty funny in the books and they just made him a mumbling uninteresting mess in the movies.

and pretty capable as well, they did him a huge disservice in the movies

Not as bad as I was imagining it was going to be

Maybe this will overcome James and Lily Potter being retconned as horrific racists.
Everyone seems on board with this, and this is obviously the most important casting update

Its pretty spot on actually and new girl looks more like Hermione's description than Emma Watson did.

The scene in Deathly Hallows when he returns and saves Harry from drowning, and then tells him how scared he is when Harry asks him to destroy the horcrux was so raw and powerful, Ron explaining what he saw and felt when he wore the necklace. I only watched that movie once but I seriously doubt it came close to what was on paper.

It didn't

The camping scene went on waaaay too long in the book
It somehow seemed to go on longer in the movie

Seems like they nailed it with Ron and Harry. Hermione seems a little off but not terrible casting.
She looks pretty spot on in Matilda for Hermione.

She was competent in the 1st 2 movies, and throughout the books.
They made Ron a bumbling coward in the films. He was no coward. Cautious, maybe, but he would jump in front of a train for friends and family.
You also didn't get to see Dobby or Neville's arc
Neville has a great arc, and maybe the most brave, loyal, and true kid at Hogwarts

Here are some AI thoughts on how the movies fricked Ron over.
In several of the Harry Potter movies, Ron Weasley's character was diminished and his actions were altered compared to the books, often at the expense of his intelligence, courage, and loyalty. Instead of being a capable and brave friend, the movies sometimes portrayed him as comic relief or a panicking figure.
Here are some specific examples of how Ron was wronged in the movies:
Devil's Snare scene (Philosopher's Stone):
In the books, Ron reminds Hermione to use her magic to defeat the Devil's Snare, but in the movie, Hermione is the one who solves it. Movie Ron is portrayed as panicking and needing to be rescued.
Spider scene (Chamber of Secrets):
While both the books and movies show Ron's fear of spiders, the movies exaggerate his panic and make him seem less capable, while book Ron is more proactive and helpful.
Snape's insults (Prisoner of Azkaban):
In the book, Ron stands up to Snape when he insults Hermione, but in the movie, Ron agrees with Snape's comments, diminishing his loyalty.
Order of the Phoenix:
In the books, it's Ron who notices the scar on Harry's hand after his detention, but in the movies, Hermione notices it, again shifting Ron's role to less important.
Deathly Hallows:
Ron's concerns about his family are largely cut from the movies, making his behavior seem odd and undermining his character.
Goblet of Fire:
Ron's insecurities, which are a key part of his character in the books, are not as fully explored in the movies.

Man, that scene in the book absolutely wrecked me. May have been the most powerful moment through-out, for me at least.
