I've always heard Gone with the Wind is the most accurate depiction, especially the B&W version.

That and the split screen scene where it shows what he thinks will happen and what actually happens. It was brilliant and heartbreaking at the same time.

This is the answer.

Definitely the best scene of the movie.

eta: I just realized that prostyleoffensetime may or may not be about two months in with "Autumn"

This gem of a movie needs to get talked about more.

There's only 2 people on here that talk about it, and I'm one of them.

The best Coen Bros. film, IMO.

I need to watch it again. My favorite is a toss up between Barton Fink and Miller's Crossing (all time favorite mob movie).

Good to see Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing and A Serious Man getting some love. Three excellent movies.

Not for me. I usually feel depressed in a way and I go sit somewhere trying to make sense of what happened.

I graduated high school in '82. Dazed and Confused eerily captured the late 70s/early 80s to a T.

Like you, I think the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan is the most accurate.

Watch the HBO series "The Pacific." IMO it takes a shite on SPR and that's not easy. By far the most realistic war scenes. It doesn't get near enough credit.

Good movie, but you can't be serious.

OP I've never even heard of this movie until this thread. Should I watch or did I need to be a certain age at a certain time?

It came out when I was in college and it's one of my favorite movies. If you've ever been young, unsure of yourself (socially and/or professionally) and in love with the wrong person then you could probably relate and enjoy it.

Haha, that movie would talk to me in my early teens. May have to give it a watch. If I knew then what I know now...
