I have read the discussion about TFA, and people keep talking about this trilogy. I know that George Lucas originally had 9 movies in mind. Does anyone really think Disney is gonna stop after 9 when they make 2 billion per movie?

As I understand it, there will be a sequel trilogy, then a series of movies that may be set any time or place in the Star War universe.

No. They didn't spend 4 billion to stop at 3. They will be making whatever the demand is. This story is a trilogy though.

I think they do this trilogy, then do a few stand alones, and then re-do the Prequels.

They are making Toy Story 4. They are making Cars 3. They will make 10 more Stars Wars movies and make you like it.

No one stops the Disney pain train.

I would gladly accept it if they made more traditionally animated movies.

I don't get why he can't admit he was winging the whole thing.

They definitely won't stop, but I imagine they will take a break from the "saga" films (the Episodes) after 9 and focus one the anthology stuff. By then you'll be getting a sequel to the Han Solo standalone coming out in 2018, and I'm sure there will be other SW related projects they will want to focus on for awhile.

That way you keep the Episodes more "special" and they continue to be a big event upon release.

I bet we do get redone prequels in our lifetimes but not until after George dies.

They won't stop but they will stop calling it Episodes. They might redo Episode 1 and start from scratch taken further in the future.

For all it is worth, Disney really has one asset. Intellectual property.....and it has seen the value in acquiring other IT ( Think Marvel for example).

When your only product is IT, you do not simple limit that product in the market place......you devise a way to keep it going over and over and over. Look at what Disney has done with the Princess genre.

You can expect another two movies.....a few stand alone movies....perhaps an entirely unrelated trilogy and then gobs upon gobs of merchandising that will shame the deal George Lucas made with the release of his original movie. (Recall, he held strong for a large proportion of the merchandising rights to what was an unproven, risky movie, with no-nameactors, and of which only minimal merchandising had been planned. THAT is where GL made his money.....and Disney will engulf that like a white star)

They're going to make 5 billion on merchandise alone this year. They don't need the movies at all.

They are going to create their own "Expanded Universe." I think they'l stop, at least temporarily, the tentpole Episode Films after 9 and continue with new stories/characters, and probably take a shot in a few years at another tentpole set.

I'm iffy on whether they will redo the prequels. Don't see a need in doing that. Not that I wouldn't mind seeing anakin's story better told. But I agree it'll only be after George has passed.

Disney was so brilliant in buying Lucasfilm. $4 Billion sounds like a lot but taking everything into account, it was bought for a song.

Between box office, licensing and merch, Disney is going to recover that $4 billion just on TFA alone.

They're going to keep making Star Wars movies until you hate the world and the child inside you dies. It's what they do.
